While I appreciate that you are attempting to show @Sean the Puritan just how out of touch his beliefs are, the fact is, most abortions are not a simple procedure. Do to whatever issues are happening in a woman's life, she doesn't feel she is able to give her very best to the child, nor even carry to term and give the child up for adoption. It's not an easy thing for any woman to go through for whatever reason she is doing it. This "joke" is not helpful.

As for the topic title -- I tend not to pay much attention to "this is the nth leading cause of x, that's terrible!" but there's no way guns should be that high in this society.

If we're giving a foetus human status, then the actual #1 leading cause is miscarriage.

At this point you can either be like one of those anti-vaxxer idiots, in which case it gets filed under "shit happens" along with dying from measles and getting eaten whilst playing with lions, or if the welfare of the child is your genuine concern, in which case you should be against natural conception and want to only see a scientifically controlled version where conception to viable baby happens with near 100% certainty.

If you don't want that, then it's not the foetus dying that you have issue with.

On their own most are quite simple. Assholes like Sean and other anti-choice fundies try (and often succeed in more backwards parts of the country) and make it hard but in more forward thinking areas it's a medical procedure like any other.
