I thought it was a week, but Ramen's account is still locked.

Had both just returned from a 1 week ban for doing the same thing or just Volpone?

    Just Volpone.

Disgusting as that bollocks was, I'm more inclined to advocate for Ramen, given he wasn't being a complete shitpickle right before. As others have advocatex, give 'em a chance to comply with the new rules, at least.

They both received two week bans. The escalation from one to two is connected to just a more general this shit needs to stop position. If we were to lessen the punishment, I would be more in favor of that being done for Volpone because he did nothing as extreme as Ramen. But they're both big boys, they can handle the two weeks.

What about Gtardo? This business is getting ridiculous, we've lost 3 posters that matter and one shitbag everyone hates.

Were I still on staff, I'd have thrown up my hands and folded. Let the fucker back in and assign one staff member that leaves him off the ignore list.

Paladin and Mrs A were not worth this, even if we're all in agreement that the board is better off for his lack of presence here.

I tend to agree with @Ancalagon . gtard's banning here may have been in haste due to a freakout on his part, but his declarations at TK about his intentions here don't make me open to the idea of letting him back in.

That said, if he were to be unbanned, I'd want him on a very short leash. Shitposting, spamming, and pulling his usual shtick should get him warned and ultimately banned again if he persists in it.

I don't have time for his foolishness and despite the histrionics from Paladin and others, the quality of discussion here has improved since his departure.

I vote for a very short leash. Let dipshit back in, we can clown him into oblivion, ban him if he keeps spamming. Fair?

I don't think it's histrionics when people who normally stay out the drama feel compelled to speak up.

And frankly, that's the thing that's pissing people off more than the fact that he was banned. I damn well remember being made out to be a drama queen shit stirring troll by Tamar and her goons when I commented on the unfair treatment to Face because he made fun of her pweshus baby Ted...and I found it galling that it happened when I had agreed with every staff decision, regardless of how stupid, up to that point. And I swore that if I ever did take over here that I'd never talk down to people and assume the worst about someone bringing up a concern. Especially quiet ones.

Can we suck up one gturner to get Paladin and Mrs A and yeah, even Ron Paul back? Is it worth risking more people who won't put in any effort at all in explaining why they disagree with civility and treating us, the staff, as actual humans and not punching bags in the grand tradition of Wordforge?

We've lost @Caboose ages ago over this during discouragement as well.

How many more do we need to walk to even entertain the idea that maybe--just maaaaaaaybe--the problem isn't with all of them?

I can't argue that. It also helps that the rest of ChanForge have been MIA either by choice or by force since Thanksgiving.

But I ask that we at least consider some thing that we can all live with and reach out to the people that at least took the time to be polite about expressing their concerns instead of sitting the board or in Chup's case go on the attack and call it fairness.

If the people we're improving the place for leave, then what's the damn point? May as well back up the database and close up shop.

@Anna There isn't need to be hasty. Jumping into the RR thread and declaring that after a few hours Mrs A is gone for good and freaking out at @gul and others is neither accurate nor helpful. As you say she hasn't logged back in, so she hasn't had a chance to even see peoples' responses to her. Take a deep breath, calm down, and discuss the issue.

Also, Ron Paul just posted 30m ago in the Hillary Milestones thread.

    I didn't say be hasty.

I said we need to listen and take in seriously.

Edit: Mrs A's last check in was ten minutes after her last post in that thread.

If she logs in before 3:48 PST next Thursday, I'll show my bewbies for the board to see, and you can quote me on that. :bailey:

In all seriousness, I'm voting for gturner to be let back in, especially if I take over for gul as one of the Horsemen. Short leash provision is acceptable.

Actually, I have a problem with it because I frequently log in from my work computer and my work phone.

As others have said before, if you need to rely on Wordforge for your porn fix, then you're doing the internet...wrong. :jayzus:

I'm against letting him back for a couple of reasons:

    1) He's a troll only here to disrupt the board. As everyone agrees discussion has improved.

    2) I don't like ultimatums. If the staff give in to this round of 'Do what I want or I'll leave' what about the next one? What will be the guidelines?

    3) We don't have long to ponder b/c we already have our next set. John and gul have both said they'll leave if gturner is allowed back.

So is Paladin and possibly Mrs A worth trading John, gul and the improved discussion?

That's why I advocate not being hasty. Even if the majority of owners decide that they should bring gturner back, it needs to be handled thoughtfully.

First I'd wait. If he is let back in, it should be after a considerable amount of time. Month? Shows admin is serious and willing to endure this shitstorm to make sure he understands. Demonstrates willingness to endure future shitstorms.

Secondly, staff should figure out a rough approximation of what his limits are. I hate lawyer ball more than most, but at least internally you should have a general idea even if you only share the rough outline with board.

Lastly, Lanz and EB had a policy where to get unbanned a person had to contact them and ask. We got rid of it, but in this case I think it should be brought back. When the time comes someone (I suggest @shootER ) should take that on. Explain to gturner why he was banned and what will be expected of him moving forward.

Again, I'm opposed to letting him back, but if enough think he should, don't be hasty. Only move forward when all the owners are on the same page and all staff understand the plan.

I can only speak for myself, but being staff, I couldn't use ignore and after the shit we all gave your re: garamet, we'd have all felt like hypocritical cunts for doing the same thing. I'd wish for John and Gul to consider using ignore if he were let back in and not let him run them off as I almost did. I'd also encourage those who begged to go back to more self-policing of trash like gturner to get off their asses as actually fucking self-police him or figure some way to fix him before we do.:borg:

Responsibility cuts both ways. Batboy is right: ages ago, gturner would've been ran out on a rail long before now, because the inability to suffer fools lightly cut across partisan lines. I completely understand now why POTN quit the staff to take on Faceman now.

But it's been nearly a month already, no? I saw flip the switch on Christmas for holiday cheer, then flood the Welcome Back post with pie recipes. :ramen:

As for all the rest of the shot,I've had one person tell me during all the shitstorm nigger troll crap he was leaving because he thought the place had gone down the gutter. Maybe I'll try reaching back out since it's died away, but that's a bell that will not be unrung anytime soon.

I don't think ignore will help. I can't speak for either one, but I think it is more along the lines of "I don't want to be a part of a board that demands gturners be brought back to shit up the place."

Putting someone on ignore doesn't solve the problem of their shitting up the place detrailing threads and depressing discussion. It doesn't help when the derailer in chief also has no life or job so spends their day starting a the first thread on any news story and then immediately taking it to shit-flinging place.

I mean how hands on is staff willing to go? Will non-gturner 'reposts' of topics be allowed? If gturner jumps into the decent thread and tries to shit it up, will his posts be moved back to his thread? Or is that cruel censorship?

    You forgot this part:

And I can't speak for Mrs. A or Paladin, but I feel safe in saying they wanted procedure follows and for us not to set a precedent of banning anyone we feel like. Hell, Mrs. A said she couldn't care less about gturner.

Then they should check out and join in the rules update thread in the Help Desk. Good discussion there.

Yep, this is exactly the issue. As for placing him on a short leash, see bellow.
Any effort we try to manage his presence will result in a shit storm by the rules trolls. If he comes back, we have to treat him like everybody else. And then we are right back where we started. We either accept that this is a place where somebody like him or John Castle can shit up the board, or we say no and accept the unintended consequences. But I don't see a valid mechanism for handling a troll like him within anything remotely resembling a logical rule set. Same goes for Castle, so bring gturner back, then we might as well bring back Castle, too. And I know of at least three people who will leave when that happens.

Totally sucks about Paladin and Mrs. Albert, but overall if we don't want the board to be the kind of place where 4chan like activities can thrive, then we might lose a few people over making the effort. Doesn't mean the effort is wrong.

You'd not be letting them back because of ultimatums. You'd be letting them back because they shouldn't have been banned in the first place.

Under my tenure we lost Linda R (Lurker) because I let Hood back in and they had personal history that Linda couldn't or wouldn't move past. So you restore a couple people who shouldn't have been banned anyway, and John and gul can either accept it or fall on their swords. And yes, it's different for them because they're staff. You can't take this shit personally.

Good idea. It worked for me. Should work for you lot.

Faceman once negbombed Tamar for an entire year. It took him longer that most trolls to give up at the lack of attention, but he did.

The Enterprise forum managed to curtail its Archer/T'Pol shipper gturner by policing one another not to add to the mess that the staff inexplicably could not or would not clean up.

The guy thrives on attention, moreso than most. Someone within the poster ranks can lead the movement to either beat him to a pulp or ice him out. In the past, the negative points and neutering of rep power below zero used to be an effective if over-abused tool.

Maybe we can move back to vBulletin :bergman:

But in all seriousness, if I weren't on staff and had no clue of the discussions going on, I'd have a hard ttimebeing sold on the idea of Ramen being a less destructive force given his noose post or Volpone pulling a stunt that Tasvir would have been embarrassed, and permabanning was never on the table for either of them.
