The “AI” is in quotes because it’s not really artificial intelligence, it’s chat bots with a large language library to allow it to simulate intelligence, but it’s not actual intelligence. Think of it as a parrot that can be trained to say certain phrases, but the parrot doesn’t actually understand the context around those phrases or what they mean to you, the listener. The reason you’re seeing so much come out about “AI” is because corporations have found a new boondoggle they want people to pour their money into, and they need a shitload of suckers to fall for it. Now, the crypto bros are already putting their ill gotten gains into it because they’re easy marks, always have been, but they need you, the average internet user, to be the next mark. That’s why they let you use their “AI” writing assistants, drawing assistants, search assistants, and all with really poor results, because they need you to get used to seeing it everywhere. The intent is to develop “AI” to the point where they can stop paying actual human beings for their artwork, whether that art is in music, graphics, writing, or some other form that, up until this point, needed a human being to create it. Everything from “AI” movies to “AI” novels, the goal is to remove the humans and make meaningless mindless “content” that you will consume, and that will cost them pennies, while you pay them to see it and experience it. That doesn't even get into the heavy environmental cost! Each "AI" use consumes a fuck ton of water and power, and we're already facing a water crisis in many parts of the US. These people have no understanding of how human beings work. They don’t understand that the reason we like art, among many reasons, is that it shares the human experience. We can resonate with it on some level, and if it really touches us, we can go on and create our own unique vision of that art in other ways. “AI” does not do this. It only scrapes and regurgitates. That’s all it does, and it is already found that even if it used billions of dollars and scraped every last person on the internet, “AI” would still fail to actually create something on its own because it’s not artificial intelligence. It’s a spam bot designed to convince you to hand over your money. We, as human beings, deserve better than these bean counting bastards, and it infuriates me that everything on the internet, everything you or I have written, drawn, and posted, can be scraped and stolen by these automated spam bots, and then used to make money for soulless corporations. What I write is not “content.” What people draw is not “content.” What people create musically, or visually on a screen is not “content.” Fuck these assholes for trying to remove humans from the human experience and replace it with a revenue generator. Fuck them straight to robot hell. You might think this is the ramblings of a grumpy old person, but it's not. I LOVE technology that advances human experience, but "A.I." is not something that does that, and they're cramming this shit into every CPU, GPU, television, calculator, and toaster, and it needs to stop.
(Kyle Reese) THAT'S ALL HE DOES!!!!!!!!!!!! "AI" is a genie with an Achilles lamp. I'm not too worried. I mean, I worry a little; damage will be done. But it ain't Skynet either.
True, I doubt it will become some kind of SkyNet, but that won't stop every part of our capitalistic culture from using it like it's the Second Coming and basing everything around it. Have you seen the new AMD and Nvidia GPUs? They're building them to use "AI" at the hardware level, meaning next time I buy a GPU, I may have to contend with the very thing I don't want on my system, something that likely won't be disabled.
Parrots have an actual understanding. They're as sophisticated as a 5 yo human. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/st...ne a bird, paper published online in Behaviour.
