I have banned Castle.

I guess the question, then, is why does NotDayton get away with it? Is it one of those things like a Twitter parody account?

If it's a pic of someone who's banned and no longer a part of the board, how is it trolling a "member"? By definition, they aren't one.

That said, it's still tasteless.

The real question to my mind is what makes it trolling. It seems very fuzzy to me.

You don't see how a photo of someone with "Derp" printed on top is trolling? I find that unlikely.

Now a photo alone...it's more a grey area but most people prefer what they consider personal information not be abused. Some people feel that another poster running around with their picture as an avatar is some kind of abuse.

People are funny here...I mean posting a link to a livejournal shouldn't be considered abusing private information but there it is.

Castle alone doesn't bother me. The catch is, its not just Castle. Speaking of signal to noise ratio, what purpose does Chardman and Lubak serve?

Chardman, IMHO, is just as annoying as Castle and I can't think of anything he has done outside of sparring with Castle. At least Lubak used to post pretty relevant and cool enough stuff.

I think it's the connection issue. There's a difference between having a public livejournal, and having someone here make a direct connection back to it. It links two separate accounts together. It would be like someone seeing your name in a public directory on a corporate website, and deciding everyone needs to know your real name, and where you work. Sure, the information is out there already, but someone has now linked you to it, when there was no clear or obvious link before.

Even with a plain picture there is always the other way around to worry about, too...

gul...would you want Tasvir to come back and use one of your photographs as his avatar? People might think you are Tasvir and responsible for the things he has posted. Ick.

I think Face's av violates the no av trolling rule. It's not like JC's account has been nuked and that there is no way he'll ever come back.

Now that that is taken care of, what is this about Castle being trolled in the Workshop? Was a report submitted? If so, who handled it and what were the findings and results?

Never said he wasn't a malicious, grudge-holding son of a bitch...he's just all talk...he's like Enterpriser he does shit that makes people fuck up their own boards. All the boards he implied he had a hand in ending, he's lying. He takes credit for other people's trolling and he does it because he is ineffective on his own. The only way he takes down WF is if we do it for him.

I've talked to former posters who stopped posting here because of the constant shitposting that goes on between Castle and garamet. So don't be so sure.

Oh, I know. But those folks chose to walk away instead of staying, using ignore and making the place better....and that is how we ruin the board with a minimum of effort on his part. He just sits back, waits and claims credit when it's over. It's not like he's hacking the place or doing anything more than being super annoying...he's just well practiced at being a pain in the ass.

I myself often avoid posting in threads where that's all that's happening. It is so so so tiresome.

On the plus side, I haven't noticed Castle v. garamet lately. It's been Castle v. Posse instead

Minimum Two weeks IMO. After that it depends on the convo goes when he asks to come back.

I'm not sure it needs a set length of time. He's simply banned until we decide to give him an amnesty. I suspect we will do that, but I couldn't tell you when that's going to be.

Two things I'm not wild about here:

1. Bans without set terms (for anyone other than the explicitly permabanned). It leaves too much open to arbitrary or subjective judgments.

2. The idea that a ban only ends when somebody comes to the administrator and petitions to be let back in. Something about that just makes me cringe.

I'm new to the inner workings of modly activities but I thought, in most cases, that the second one was always how it's been.

I don't know how they work here since I've never been banned or had to deal with the details, but TBBS had a "x warnings in this amount of time gets you 24 hours, y warnings gets you a week" kind of thing, and at the end you could just log in again.

IIRC it began with Elwood. Cass and Borgs usually either permabanned or had set terms.

Yeah, a point system wouldn't have applied in this case. I said early in this thread that the model is Skrain Ducat. Castle wanted to play the accumulated warnings game, which is why he recently started breaking rules, something he had never before done. We aren't obligated to give him that opportunity. Such a system works on people who don't realize they've crossed a line. A nudge back to the path can help. Castle knew what he was doing, so I see no reason to give him that kind of pre-defined punishment.

He can ask to come back if he wants, and he can then accept or reject the terms. There is no need for an overly bureaucratic system.

Yep...that was why it was allowed.

Back when he started with it, I talked with him about it and he was going to change it but then he remembered that he had never posted in any forum aside from the Red Room. He then promised to never post outside the Red Room or if he did then he would change his avatar. Seemed fair and reasonable to me so let him continue.
