Harve Bennett's TOS prequel movie was gonna give canon's asshole the Goatse treatment. Canon whiners should be kissing the ground and weeping with joy that the current canon is tweakable with an eye-glasses screwdriver kit.
No, not Kahless from TOS. Go watch STD again and I might read the rest of your bitchy post. [/quote] I have no idea what STD is.
He means Discovery. CHUD Youtube thinks it's hilarious to abbreviate it as STD. Y'know, like a cock rash. Ha. Ha. Ha. Anyway, if he means T'Kuvma, he wasn't Klingon Jesus; he was Klingon David Koresh. And he paid the same price for his hubris.
Oh, if he's taking about T'Kuvma, then I don't know why he calls him "Klingon Jesus". It's just demonstrating his lack of literacy.
I'd accept if it's at least in the same ballpark metaphorically. But you're too dumb to even get that close.
I guess I don't see what's wrong with T'Kumva. The Klingons are made up of a bunch of feuding houses that hate each other and can't stop fighting? Seems on-brand. A leader using aspects of the Klingon religion to get warring houses to unite against an enemy? Pretty plausible. Not sure where the "contempt for what came before" comes from.
We've never gotten a road map of how many and what kinds of sects the Klingon religion is split into, and if any pre-Kahless religions are still kicking around. It's all unexplored territory for the writers to play around with.
I'm not sure either. I can at least understand complaining about continuity. But "contempt for what came before"? If anything, I'd say it was too slavishly devoted to what came before, clinging to continuity like the wall around an ice rink. TNG, especially in its early seasons, had far more "contempt" as UA seems to define it. A bald, non-American Captain?! One who surrenders?!? A KLINGON on the crew?!?!? Families in the ship?!?!? A counselor on the bridge?!?!?!?! Holy cow, talk about pissing on the legacy of TOS. People want to complain about how unprofessional the crews were in new Trek, but honestly, what is more unprofessional than "Captain Picard Day" on the flagship of the fleet?
Eh, a bunch of scientists working their asses off to build new spore drives doesn't make for good television. I'm sure it was happening offscreen though, since we see a breakthrough by the end of season 4, even though the dilithium planet they found eliminated some of the urgency of developing alternatives. As for not being being able to duplicate the tardigrade stuff Stamets injected himself with or finding a way to give other species the same abilities as Books people, it does seem like a weird shortcoming, but at least they're consistent with it, since Season 5 was all about the Federation and the Breen being excited about and terrified of the Preservers technology. If I had to guess I'd imagine the major powers wasted centuries putting a lot of their resources into dilithium alternatives and temporal stuff that ended up banned instead of genetic engineering. Or maybe there was another Khan-type disaster offscreen that put them off genetic tinkering again.
One problem with the spore drive is that, after they worked out the kinks, it became way the fuck too powerful. If you're going to have a drive system that can take you absolutely anywhere in an instant, you need to build in a limitation like the "red line" on BSG's jump drive and say that jumping beyond a certain distance is possible, but insanely dangerous.
If it were in my universe, I'd have that it was slowly giving everyone brain and spine cancer. But, Trek would wave that away with a magic hypo, so there'd be no point in introducing it.
And i don't care what you accept either. Doesn't change the fact that you're incapable of properly articulating your points.
T'Kuvma was great, and his ideas were (relatively speaking) solid. Anyone honest with enough knowledge of the Empire knew it was dying, so it makes sense that different people would step up to try to save it. And we saw many times that the best and fastest way to make peace with Klingons is to unite with them against a common enemy. Sucks for our heroes that he chose the Federation as that enemy, but he was still more or less on the right track in terms of reforming the Empire.
Berman; Verne; heck, even Shakespeare. Very creative and told great stories IN THEIR TIME fucking old people ...
Sure I did. It just wasn't a copy/paste of bible versus with "jesus" replaced with "t'kuvma." He or other Klingons referred the living embodyment of Kahless or some stupid shit like that at some point. The paralells are there if you aren't being too much of an arrogant, gatekeeping twatwaffle to admit it.
You are literally the first person I've ever seen refer to T'Kuvma as "Klingon Jesus". And whether I agree with your assessment or not (and i do not) that still doesn't explain how it's an insult to the fans or whatever.
Honestly? I think it was the worst. Great plot. great exeution. yet, no resolutution? just 'its a mystery'. that isn't trek. trek is about science nad finding answers. not passing it on to some nebulus entity we'd never even heard of.
Aside from the really awful teeth prosthetics (my sympathies to the actors trying to speak Klingon in those things), I really liked the approach they took with these Klingons. It was different. It was more than just some guys in leather and rubber foreheads, and I say that as someone who loves the TNG era Klingons.
Late to the party with this reply but White Boy Mariner would basically be Sterling Archer in space. And I love Archer too (at least, the first five seasons) but the Loveable Asshole white boy who isn't living up to his potential because of man pain or whatever is a very overdone trope in American media. Hell, it was already done once before in Trek itself with Tom Paris. At the surface level, Beckett Mariner need not be Black or a woman and sure, it wouldn't been written too different as another nationality or gender, but as a Black woman, it was refreshing to see a character that looks like me be allowed to fuck up and grow, especially after growing up with the only two extremes of Black women being trodden down hood rats or Type A personalities with high end careers that 95 percent of us have no hope of achieving. People like FF are gonna whine and bitch regardless of what we say or do. Fuck 'em. The fact remains that I don't think a comedic show--a concept even those coming in good faith were skeptical of--about a white guy being given multiple chances bc of his high ranking parents pulling strings would've been met well by fans. I'm old enough to remember when people had concerns about this with Jonathan Archer when he made the Vulcans stealing his daddy's job his personality.
Some contempt is good actually But snark notwithstanding, a franchise that's not willing to do some reflecting is a stagnant one. This was a problem I vividly recall many people having about Enterprise, whose first two seasons with rare exception was fundamentally no different from the show that proceeded it (and THAT show walking back its own premise to play it safe bc Paramount wanted it network to launch). Even if SW didn't shit the bed with Episode IX, it was still heading that same direction with how placid and safe the first movie was.
The Thrones showrunners actually wanted to shake things up, and have a religious schism within the Jedi; like protestants vs Catholics, but Kathleen Kennedy was scared of risk after the reception by the Internet Howler Monkeys to the sequels and "Solo". The days of David Bowie and Prince not giving a fuck what the critics and fans think, and doing whatever they want are long gone.
