I'd say it's a pretty big change. The board looked almost exactly the same with all the same skins from when I joined in '04 and now it's different. I don't necessarily have a problem with it, but there were a lot of new things that happened immediately after the new staff change.

So the big bad change is about the look and software that is running the board? I've been in and out quite a bit due to my work lately. Honestly though, the way Wordforge is being run feels pretty much the same to me as with any other owner. I really don't understand the problem that some people have with it. Has anyone been banned? Have we revealed anyone's personal info? Have we even had any major rules or policy changes? There are more people than ever with Shelter access. To me that says there is more transparency than before. The only difference is that the software was upgraded and now 4 people are splitting the bills instead of one. Seems to me some people let politics dictate their approval of the ownership. I find that to be really strange on a board that has gone from Cassandra on the left to Elwood on the right with no similar issues.

This thread reminds me of my days doing tech support.

Customer: I want to return my device, it doesn't work.

Me: Ok, what exactly's wrong with your device?

Customer: I just told you, its broken.

Me: I understand that, I'm just trying to figure out if its something that can be easily fixed or not. It may be something simple that you can fix, or it might be something serious, in which case, we'll be happy to replace it.

Customer: Look, it doesn't work! Don't you get that?

Me: Yes, but can you turn the device on? Or does nothing happen when you push the power button?

Customer: It just doesn't work, do you understand?

Me: Yes, but in order for me to get you a replacement, I have to understand what's going on.

Customer: Its broken, I told you! I want to speak to your supervisor because you're clearly too stupid to help me.

    Me: Ok, hold on.

So moving to software that doesn't crash regularly and that our kindness of their hearts technical support guys prefer is a bad thing?

Again . . . The software on the old board was fine. It was the database that kept crashing.

Like Lanz said..Going to VB4 and using the opportunity to clean up the DB IMO would have been a winner. Look you guys are the owners. I'm not sure why VB4 was abandoned for this software, but VB4 is proven to be stable and "snappy". It make the "customer" experience more enjoyable. I admit I am picking at nits, but nits are the very thing that can make or break any organization. Policy wise I think you guys have done well. I just think when it comes to the board software that a mistake was made. You bring up a good question, who exactly are the tech support guys, O2C, Nick, and John? What were their reasons for liking this software over continuing with VB4? What am I missing here?

So no one is going to say it?

The original members, the left-leaners are posting more than ever, the new people are mostly left-leaners so far and the old posters who have returned...yep, left-leaners.

The board is shifting more "left" all the time. While moderates and lefties are probably not caring/loving it, someone like Volpone probably isn't enjoying it much.

The software...meh. I miss VB and am probably not alone. Obviously, it isn't a deal breaker 'cause here I am.

I don't have much opinion on the software. After a month + of usage, I don't really even remember the old, and I suspect that will be the case more and more over time.

As for the lefty/righty thing? That's just pathetic if it's the real issue. This board used to be much more conservative, quite true, but liberals mostly hung in and continued to argue their views. Conservatives should do the same. If Volpone/Muad/etc can't or won't do that without certain assistive board features, then that is more a problem with them, than it is the board. Free speech policies are available to all, they don't tilt in any political direction. Fortunately, we have many conservatives who are comfortable with the open rule set. Even though I miss the others, I'm more interested in the many who contribute.

I guess I'm in the minority. I, thus far, prefer XF to vB in almost every way. Also, the one time I felt like there was an issue, I spoke up, and it was hashed out. I'm sure nobody wants or needs my seal of approval, but I have no complaints.

Just to be clear, I think I like xenforo better too, I just don't remember enough at this point regarding differences. It's certainly much easier to post videos, and I really love the mobile site. Mostly, though, the goal with board software be that it works, it provides a decently stable platform for our content, and management has proficient skills for keeping it running. I think it hits all of those points.

My apologies for bumping this thread, but since the subject came up on software....I can't say I care for it. There are some thing that I like--the collapsing of thread pyramids, as one example. But other things are pretty clunky for a phone user, like trying to edit down a quoted post. I don't know if it's just my phone, but the cursor just jumps from the bottom of where I'm typing into the frigging quote tags. I honestly found VB to be more cell phone friendly. Just my two cents.

The solution to the problem of trying to type a response to a quoted message on a phone is after you hit "reply" and it drops down to the text box, hit "More Options" and that'll take you to a text box where you don't have to worry about the cursor jumping around on you.

I also find that the phone works better when I turn off the rich text editor.

And of course, there's always the Poodle solution ;)
