I don't remember if it actually came to market, but there was a car stereo in the early 2000's that was supposed to be like a TiVo. You could rewind the broadcast of you missed part of it. I really doubt it it had much of a market.
I would imagine that got shot down by the industry. That would have had a market back then. If that was there it was blasted because it would have made it convenient to record music.
Who the hell would pay for CNN+? CNN is one of those channels that are just kind of on in the background in a waiting room. The viewers actually interested in watching cable news are gonna watch it on cable, and not go out of their way to pay for, download, and figure out a new streaming app. I have a lot of issues with how many streaming services there are, but at least the newcomers like Peacock, Paramount+, Discovery+, etc. would have content most people would want to watch.
Company gives the people what they want, so folks sign up for the streaming service. Company then takes away the thing people signed up to get.
I told spectrum to take a hike back when they took over our area and jacked up my bill to $180 a month. They even made turning off their service a pain in the ass as I had to bring the equipment to their building which was more than 30 minutes away. AND I had to wait for awhile once I got there as there was a shit load of people doing the same thing I did. I now pay Frontier $62 a month for basic internet plus whatever service I'm streaming at the time which never tops $100 as I only keep two services at a time. It's been about five years now and I don't miss cable one bit. For years cable companies enjoyed a monopoly and would stick it to their customers with higher rates because they could. Now that streaming is around to give us options, the consumer is telling the cable companies to go fuck themselves.
I'm glad you were able to do that, because fuck cable. Unfortunately for us, Spectrum is our only internet provider (I live in the middle of nowhere) unless I want satellite internet for $150 a month. We used to have 5 or 6 options but, well, monopoly.
I'm on the waiting list, but it's looking like at least a year or two before they come here IF they come here. We're a good ways out from any major cities. Still, if we can get it, $60/mo for 100Mbps download speeds would be a slam dunk.
There are no phone companies in your area that provide internet? I thought as long as there were landlines there would at least be a Verizon as they seem to be everywhere. Hope that changes for you soon.
We technically have AT&T as an option, but their bandwidth for where we live is something like 3 Mbps, and they want $70 a month for that. Not only that, it is highly unstable. They have a POTS system, and can provide voice calls, but internet and anything else is just beyond their reach here.
Years ago in Florida we were living in a relatively rural area of Hillsborough County. Calls to Warner Cable were always answered with "there's not enough" people to make it worth running cable out there. Finally, the County Commission granted a couple of overlapping franchises. Warner immediately started squealing like stuck pigs about how the new franchises were "cherry picking" the good locations. Within a very short period of time there was a tag hanging on our door announcing the pending arrival of Warner Cable service. Funny how we went from not worth serving to an area worth cherry picking. Eventually Warner (in it's Time/Warner incarnation) got complacent and let the picture quality and channel selection go in the crapper and we went with DirecTV for a few years, until we got sick of rain fade (a constant problem with the amount of thunderstorms in that area) and went with Verizon's Fios, which was great, until they sold out to Frontier, which is the anus of the cable industry. I had long since moved out, but when Frontier took over they did away with all "promotional pricing" and bills went through the roof at the same time some places were without service for weeks. Now the residence is on Spectrum, which I guess is okay, but cable is a bullshit industry. Now you know the rrrrest of the story....
Ugh, yeah, Frontier is horrible. They tried to move into our area a few years ago, and Spectrum ran them off. I don't like Spectrum's business practices, but in this case I was appreciative. Frontier is definitely the anus of the cable/broadband industry. I did get an email from Verizon this morning saying they're expanding into our area. It looks like within the next year they'll bring 1 Gbps service here, and for the same price I'm paying Spectrum. I asked them if they had a service that had half the speed for half the price and they laughed. Also, no.
Who didn't see this coming? CNN+ has to be the dumbest idea in the history of television/streaming. And there is a lot of history of dumb ideas...
Tired of paying for all the channels when you just watch a few? Break free of the cable and you can get just the channels you want at a lower price!
Netflix is hemorrhaging money and lost a ton of subscribers. They’re going to have to do some soul searching in order to gain back subscribers.
I just downgraded my Netflix plan to "Standard" which costs $16/month. It only allows for two screens and has only HD, not UHD. I doubt I can tell the difference between UHD and 1080P on Netflix. The only reason I had the UHD was to get extra screens during the pandemic when my kids were all on Netflix simultaneously. That's not happening anymore.
Hey can you log out from one of your devices? I've been trying to watch the new season of Russian Doll and Netflix says too many people are watching.
