I must've missed that. Though that didn't keep Janeway from effectively implementing the death penalty on more than one occasion.

    Remember Tuvix?

If that is true, then maybe you shouldn't be so eager to see wars happen and shouldn't be so intent o promoting the politics of division.

Well yes, opinions do cause harm if, like yours, they help to promote the ideas of inequality, oppression and violence.

You really don't understand what Star Trek is, do you?

You assume that all opinions lead to actions.

    They don't.

Having just viewed this episode, I must conclude that it would have been extremely unlikely for any such executions to be carried out. Sulu and Chekov are both outraged by the idea, and it is in fact what convinces them that the captain is an imposter. It would seem that even occasional executions are so far from being standard procedure aboard a starship as to be practically unthinkable.

Perhaps the so-called Mirror Universe is more to your liking, since executions in that realm are quite common.

assassinations and murders during coup attempts are not the same as judicially approved executions.

Wasn't this thread originally in Media Central and got moved when @Dr. Krieg fucked up the board?

Re-reading it, it should probably stay in the Red Room. :bergman:

Everyone knows that. Hell, I've wondered what is so bad about Talos IV that going there would warrant the death penalty.

I knew it was started in MC, but I guess I figured it was moved intentionally since it's obvious it was a troll thread from the beginning.

It still could be considered a form of justice. Rock hard, throbbing justice. :bergman:

Only by people who equate all killings with murder. Such a person is a fool pure and simple.

When I read a Dayton thread I'm often compelled to look up articles on sociopaths and sociopathic behavior.

    Fascinating stuff.

In "I, Mudd" doesn't Spock recite a long list of execution methods employed by a planet where Mudd pissed off the authorities?

IIRC one of them is by phaser.

    You're like 10 years old.

You can't be using the decades tag yet.

Well Star Trek wasn't written as the utopia that Roddenberry tried to turn TNG into.

So mankind had not yet escaped the death penalty.

By the way, I know novels are not canon, but in a few of them that shows what Klingon characters are thinking it shows Klingons absolutely appalled at the practice of the Federation "locking up people in a cage, sometimes for their entire lives" (life in prison).

Isn't the "painless" much like lethal injection is today? An unverifiable assumption meant to help people feel better.

It's obvious a transporter is painless since they use it to transport people back and forth.

If it was painful I doubt anyone would use it.

It's very painful for the person who beams out and is disintegrated. It's not painful for the doppelganger formed from raw energy with the memories of the original. :soholy:

Actually it was shown that on Star Trek the person being transported maintains a constant stream of consciousness.
