The Mary Suefic would've kept her dragon shape-shifting abilities intact. :bailey:

That aside, I feel like I'm the only one that liked King Stephan's over the to descent into madness. That was honestly the only thing keeping my attention there.

I always saw Belle as the weakest, least-feminist of all the female characters, but that's tinged now by how hopeless they make her on OUAT.

The best part of the movie is the sequel we never got to see but which inevitably takes place. The time period of the film would put it shortly before the French revolution, which means within a few years of getting married Belle and the Prince likely end up decapitated.

Both of these would be better than the new movie:

Well good. My daughter will be seeing that in a few weeks. It will be her first movie theater experience. I won't be attending. So I'll ask her mom if my issues have been fixed.

Were there openly gay people in pre-revolution France?

Uh, where was this answered?

I have no doubt there were gay people in pre-revolution France, but I have trouble believing they could be openly so due largely to the influence of the Catholic Church in the country at that time.

It's been so long since I've seen the movie, it was not as funny as I'm sure it is. The song was really funny though.

    Both are true, IMO.

Belle has a choice between two asshole, but the Beast is literate, at least.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with the stuff about Gaston. I'd actually say that it was entirely intentional on the part of the creative team behind the movie, perhaps ironically so people would overlook the shit Beast did.

I read a book on screenwriting once, and making the villain look worse than a morally horrendous hero is a very common trick that's used (ie, Pulp Fiction).

I've seen it on Daytime TV, where a character gets suddenly trashed to promote whatever hot couple is in that year. I saw it even happen mid-episode on As the World Turns, which was the biggest offender:lol:
