Gee, I wonder if "don't say trans" will turn out to be a complete fucking lie the way "don't say gay" was. And will we get to see washed up sci fi actors posting "trans trans trans trans" before they figure out they were duped?
We've been through this. "Don't Say Gay" was absolutely an accurate description of Florida's abhorrent legislation.
Neither those words nor words to that effect appeared in that bill. You gotta wear a special brand of beer goggles to see it.
No, it fucking wasn't. All you can offer is a pile of rationalizing to the tune of "it REALLY says THIS between the lines, because I say so."
Yes, you have to use the exact words. Because that's a thing bad guys do is be really honest. Like how they called Abu Ghraib "Ball-Zappy Torture Town".
Aaaand it's more of the same. Presenting this endless list of "gender identities" as anything but a bunch of narrow opinions. And my personal favorite, concealing things from parents. That's the real goal with inserting these opinions in public schools: an end run around the authority of parents who hold the "wrong" opinions. https://qctimes.com/news/state-and-...cle_824934b1-1f0c-5ef5-8367-fb70c1a225e2.html
Here's the text of the legislation: https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557/BillText/er/PDF I'll even point out one of the relevant parts of the bill, at line 22: "prohibiting classroom discussion about sexual orientation" There is no reading between the lines. It's right there in black and white. While the words "Don't Say Gay" are obviously not in the text, it's nonetheless an accurate description of the legislation. If you wanted to, you could even say "Don't Say Hetero" but given the Florida Governor's very clear and public position on the issue, "Don't Say Gay" is the more accurate description.
Let's cut the crap here. What's at issue is whether you can present "gender identity" as required learning alongside math and english, when it is no such thing. To instill in the captive student audience the FALSE notion that they are under any obligation whatsoever to recognize and validate on demand. Of COURSE those teachers don't want parents to know when they pull this shit.
Albert's intentional obtuseness aside, the attempt to roll back of child labor laws here is really fucked up. By the party that "cares the most about children" btw What is to gain here, is there an acute labor shortage in Iowa or is this lobbyists trying to kids to work in dangerous jobs so the companies can pay them less than adults
How is it obtuse? You can still say "trans." What you can't do is what you shouldn't try to do: using a position of authority to present your opinions as binding fact.
Nope, it's not the exact words. By your own standards, you're a lying liar who should have his pee-pee put in a guillotine for breakfast links.
Dude, of course you can still say trans. This is just the "buzzphrase" that has been applied to the bill as has happened millions of times before with other bills and will happen million of times again
I was doing yard work in the neighborhood for cash before I was a teenager. Not sure why that's controversial, unless the tax man is angry..
In response to the Feds going after multiple Midwestern meatpackers for human trafficking, child labor and slave labor, rescuing 50 children there has been a concerted effort by those states to both roll back local laws Federal regulations on the issue. I posted their lobby groups priorities in another thread a couple weeks ago. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...rafficking-children-slaughterhouses-rcna66081 STATES RIGHTS!!!
Like say the opinion that someone's gender identity is something you should only recognise if their parents explicitly tell you to? The stances that hetero and cis is the good normal way to be, and that one day in the 19th century slaves were freed and then race relations were solved and equalised forever in the US are both opinions that you have politicians trying to codify into classroom fact. If I was teaching somewhere affected by these laws I would just default to using they/them/their for everyone, but I bet you'd think anyone doing that was obtuse, because you really do understand these laws are about enforcing a conservative view of morality.
They are prioritizing parental rights over the false entitlement of activist teachers, and I'm ok with that.
That implies a legit entitlement. Lemme guess, it leans toward Christian whites, right? Or is that "activist" to say so? Like it's "activist" to notice the emperor is naked?
Me to 5th grade teacher during first attendance call: Please call me Matt Teacher: Sure thing Matt Kid two rows back: I go by my middle name please Teacher: Lori or LoriAnne Kid two rows back: Lori please Teacher: Welcome to 5th grade Lori UA in the back row just seething: *entitled bitch*
Legitimate entitlement only comes from the terms of a mutual agreement. In school, the parents absolutely are a party to that agreement.
So real situation example (some details changed for anonymity) 17 year old student enters classroom. They are wearing a skirt, talking to some girls, and introduce themself to me nervously as Sarah. You truly believe that me just calling that student Sarah and her from that point forward was "false entitlement" and "activism" on my part, and that the correct thing to do would be stubbornly keep on calling the student him and by a name they wouldn't want to respond to unless they bring in a signed note from their parent?
Hmm, yes. And if I see two boys or girls holding hands I should have to make them stop until their parents can be informed. Or if two kids of different races are playing together I should separate them until I've confirmed their parent approves. Whoops, time for science class, better keep the book closed until we've made sure noones parent only wants them to learn the Earth is 7000 years old. All things that have been pushed for by the same sorts of politicians making these laws, and always trying to abuse legit parental rights.
If a fourteen year old is working twelve hour shifts at the meat packing plant, they should be able to use any pronouns they damn well please without needing anyone elses permission.
