When will Americans learn they cannot act and travel in foreign countries the same way they are able to in the United States? Link
It seems like these people feel they can move as freely in these countries as they do in the US. They do not seem to realize they do not have rights in these countries and they will be subject to whatever laws and regulations those countries choose to impose. Many of us in California, especially Southern California have grown up understanding that from experiences and interesting tales from friends, acquaintances and family who have visited our neighbors to the South in Mexico. Of course, the general consesus with them is that if show the local law enforcement officer enough US cash, you can get out of most anything they have trumped up.
Eight years sucks but I can't say I feel sorry for them. There are hundreds if not thousands of awesome places to go hiking not just in the US but in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia where the natives won't toss your ass in jail for spying.
The Iranians will milk them for propaganda purposes for a few months and them release them "in a show of good faith".
Interesting. Normally you'd expect an autocratic theocracy imprisoning Americans on a flimsy pretense to lead to outrage, plus maybe a few calls to nuke Tehran. But if they're college graduates from Berkeley, I guess it's OK.
Well, they're kind of fucked. Fucked like the Iran hostages during the Carter Administration. I concur with Bulldog's analysis, although given current US/Iranian relations, unless we roll over on Iran's nuclear program, I don't see them being released as a show of good faith unless a Ronald Reagan gets elected and it becomes clear that there will be repercussions if they aren't released.
Well to be honest, there are certain places in the U.S. that aren't safe to visit either, like Detroit or Louisiana!!
For fucks sake, it really doesn't matter to me where in the hell they went to school. They were fucking stupid as well as naive for choosing to go on a hike along the border of Iran and Iraq. The fact that you are cannot comprehend that simple fact and are forced into trying to make this some sort of partisan bullshit is pathetic at best. Why don't you crawl up Prick Prickards asshole since you clearly aren't any better than socialist cock sucker is.
Oooh, is another KIRK1ADM meltdown in progress? Somebody grab the popcorn. Really, KIRK? Two Americans are kidnapped and held prisoner by a dictatorial foreign government, and an oppressive Muslim one at that, and your only response is that they shouldn't have been there in the first place? I never thought I'd see you turn into a Mahmoud Ahmadinejad apologist.
Uh huh. You are too stupid to comprehend what anyone is saying in this thread. Had I wanted to criticize these young fools for being graduates of Berkeley I would have. But, once again, you are too fucking stupid be able to figure simple things like that out. What does a socialist fucker like you suggest? The Obama start yet another war?
I know that, since you can't actually reach through the screen and hurt someone, you try to express your rage with the worst insults you can imagine, but insults, to be effective, have to have at least some truth to them. Calling tafkats a socialist is simply insulting you, because it shows how thoroughly ignorant you are. The guy is a centrist. He is somewhat on the left on some issues (but not "way over on the left" on any issues), and actually very conservative on some others. This is an honest question: Why don't you actually try to debate, and refute the arguments of those with whom you disagree? Merely resorting to the same handful of childish insults all the time gives an impression of immaturity, lack of imagination, and incompetence on the issues. Is that the image you want to project, or is there some other reason you do it?
Fuck off Async. I'm sorry, but I see no reason to "debate" bullshit accusations made by a socialist asshole like Tafkats. I could care less what "images" you have anyone. But, thank you for limiting your post to less than a full page lecture.
They weren't kidnapped; they were arrested. There's a difference. Where were they? Along the Iran-Iraq border. Iran hasn't been our friend for over 30 years. We've been in a war in Iraq for 9 years. Not exactly the smartest place to be.
K1A is actually being consistent here. How many times has he suggested that non citizens have no actual rights, and only privileges while in the USA? I think he rather supports the idea that government can and should arbitrarily persecute foreigners.
I am surprised the Iranians would imprison their biggest supporters! Berkley students? Way to stick it to mainstream America, Iran!
I asked pretty much the same question around this time last year. http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=81643
