They shouldn't let anyone with a name in common with an interview subject be the person who does the interview. Which one's Morgan, anyway, Batman's butler & Driving Miss Daisy? These black guys have a varied degree of credibility depending on how black they are, how good their movies are, and how much of a token black their roles have been. I like Freeman, but I have to disagree with this. The whole "Tea partuy is running the GOP" is clearly bollocks. If the Tea Party had so much support from Repubs, then why are they still a fringe gathering? Also, I don't understand the logic of "Obama made racism worse". What a load of fucking shit. Sure, there are morons out there to still peddle the "he's a kenyan muslim" crap. But the fact is that what has undone Obama is that he is a bad and inexperienced politician. No more, no less. If he is worried about racism then maybe Mr. Freeman should stop and realise that this is not a black man playing a president in a movie. This is a real man of colour in the Oval Office....and, politics aside, that to me makes more a statement for race equality than a bunch of powerless name calling whingers in the Tea Party. Problem with these Hollywood types is that they are never satisfied. It's En Vouge to have a "cause" to harp on about from your mansion in la la land.
When I say ignorant what I mean is he pays no attention to the news. He doesn't know anything about the Tea Party or the people in it. He's just going off of the talking points that the Democrats are running around using. Chup, I think what Freeman is saying is that the very reality of a black man as president has brought out the racists in America. Further, he's saying the Tea Party, as if it were some unitary force, is solely dedicated to getting rid of Mr. Obama. But you nailed it. Obama's not very good at being president. Worse than that, though? We, the people, elected him. Even worse? We'll probably re-elect him next year because we can't figure out a way to do better.

The Republican power brokers and leaders hate and fear the Tea Party even though the current crop of candidates are kissing up to the Tea Party.
I have no doubt whatsoever that there are some racist elements among the Republicans and among the Tea Partiers. However, the fact that so many people on the left can't think of any reason for the opposition party to be against the president besides the color of his skin shows that racism isn't confined to the Republicans in the States. Freeman is actually being racist in his comments, by implying that we should somehow keep Obama simply because he is black. Well, in my opinion, being black is not a problem for a politician, or even a president, but neither is it a qualification. Those who think we should support Obama because he's black are just as racist, in their own subtle way, as those who are opposed to Obama because he's black. Skin color has nothing to do with it!
I think you have hit upon something here, namely that ignorance is the issue, which is why I think it's a bit strange to put it down as the "Democrat talking points". What I think here is that we simply have a Hollywood twat who likes to make himself feel more impartant than someone who earns money for "lets pretend". So he comes out with this dross based on the crap he's told by his fellow resposibility dodgers. I'm no sure any political party agenda has much to do with the fucktitude that goes on in Beverly Hills. Well, I don't think I know enough about politics in the halls of the Democratic Party to really make a comment on this.
Like I say, to have a black man in office make a much bigger statement for racial equality than the Tea Party can ever make. The problem is that some people aren't satisfied. They want to have their cake and eat it. For those who actually followed politics, we all knew Obama was riding on the minority vote and in reality he was nothing more than an average politician. I said it three years ago and it has come to pass. But the election of a coloured man to the presidency is still a massive step. A massive, massive step. But this is not good enough. They want more, more, more. Don't attack Obama cause his shit don't stink. Martin Luther King would turn in his grave over such an attitude. Indeed, which is why Obama is double the dissapointment than a white male or white female president ever would've been. He had the resposibility to prove to the ethnic minorities of America that a man like them could help change America and the world for the better. He has failed miserably at that and so the level to which he has let the ethnic minorities down is nothing short of criminal. "We the people?". Nope. "We the ethnic minorities who couldn't be bothered to vote before" elected him. Did you vote for him? Did anyone on this board vote for him (aside from the LA lovelies)?

Exactly. "We the people". Whether I agree with the choice or not, whether I like it or not, in this country, I go along with the choice and say he's my president. I didn't vote for him but tried to get someone I thought would do a better job. That is the way it works.
This may be one of the biggest problems in U.S. politics today: the inability to even conceive of the idea that a reasonable, intelligent person might look at the same set of data and reach a different conclusion. It's like Volpone's assertion to John in another thread that no one could possibly support Obama without being insane, evil or retarded. Good ideas can come from (almost) anywhere, and when people assume that stupidity or insanity or racism are the only conceivable reasons someone might disagree with them, it leads to the digging-in of heels and the refusal to even listen to any ideas that come from someone on the evil/insane/stupid list.
OTOH, Obama did get that benefit of the doubt. In fact, he got way more of the benefit of the doubt than he deserved because people were so tired of the status quo. They'd had 8 years of Bush and "Hope and Change" definitely appealed to them. When, after nearly two years of getting screwed by the Democrats, they realized they weren't getting either, they started running for the exits and the Tea Party was born. There's a point you stop listening to stupid and the people who've been spouting it have to again earn the right to your attention.

It looks like he's just talking to himself. In any event, I'm sure there are some people out there that want Obama out of the White House because he's black. I've personally talked to a person that believes that. Saying that though, Obama's pretty awful track record as president is what motivates the majority of people who want him out - the guy has been underwhelming and then some during his tenure.
Everyone is capable of being a racist. Most of us realize racism is a backward, ignorant holdover from a backward ignorant age and we move on. Cain doesn't help by insisting he's a "real" black man, and while I love Morgan Freeman as an actor, and figure if God were real he'd look a lot like Morgan Freeman, I just can't agree that racism comprises the whole of the Tea Party or the GOP in general.
