The U.S. Embassy in Iraq is preparing for an emergency evacuation due to security risks. The US has authorized the departure of non-essential personnel and their families from Bahrain and Kuwait. Defense Secretary Hegsett has approved voluntary departure for military families in the Middle East.

There is increasing daylight between the European and American positions on this. It would be foolish to think that this was a principled position by Starmer, Macron and company, but it does seem to be a tactical effort to oppose American policy at least optically as a reaction to the other things that the Trump Administration is doing on the world stage. Rubio was pissing blood about the ineffectual sanctions several countries applied against Smotrich and Ben-Gvir too.

Ireland is also introducing legislation making trade with Israeli settlements in occupied territory illegal. The government has been pushed into this by popular opinion and needs to be pushed further, including to ban the sale of Israeli bonds.

Zionists are predicably in absolute uproar, screeching about how this targets "the Jews". Police investigations have been announced.
