We're fucked. Long story short: the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) current that brings warm surface water from the southern hemisphere to the north is showing signs of instability. The current impacts global climate and, if it substantially weakens or collapses, it's basically armageddon. Happy Friday!
Meridional Overturning is a listed sex act on XHamster. I'm up for that being circulated. Also death.
The impending collapse of civilisation is barely making the news. It certainly isn't the screaming headline it should be. But let's content ourselves with a managed transition to a different "mix" of fuel sources, and other weasel words.
The path to armageddon has been pretty obvious for a while now. Odds are good that atmospheric CO2 is already past the tipping point and absent some serious geoengineering we're gonna be boned.
It is going to happen. Society has inertia, and it seems the environment also has inertia with things like frozen methane pockets thawing. The direction needs to be reversed for a long period of time, and even if the human race would do such a thing, I think nature would finish the job anyway. Really, we cannot get people to wear a mnask or get a shot with the threat of hospitalization and death. Do we really think we could get a world full of idiots to stop burning fossil fuels? The only way to do that would be at the tap, aka where they pump it from the ground, and that is never happening. Enjoy things while they last, and for as long as you can where you are. There are going to be large numbers of people who see the fall of civilization as we know it now. You can't stop it. Welcome to the world of the poor and hated minorities whypipo. All you privileged whypipo who have watched everyone else get stomped on while you turned away and never did anything are going to see the effects of your weakness. At least you never made an effort to make things great for everyone so you get what time you have of being selfish bastards.
Considering the vast amount of energy it would require to actually scrub the air and start adjusting temps on a global scale, I do not think mankind is close to the output required to do that. Even if we were we would have to dedicate that energy output to whatever technology does it and not things like cryptomining and shipping some cheapo chinese goods around the world.
Unless it is about adjusting construction, infrastructure, and technology to surviving in far more adverse conditions, rather fucking pointless.
No one told me there would be orcs. Is there going to be goblins too? I might have to go for some reincarnation if there will be goblins in the next chapter. Of course after seeing goblinslayer I might chose not to be a cute young girl in the next life. I guess generally that would probably be a bad choice for an avatar in apocalypse world. Is there a good choice for an avatar? Maybe Vin Diesel because he seems to do well in harsh landscapes.
Orks. Warhammer 40K is a British grimdark tabletop/RPG franchise. Orkses are basically Tolkien orcs but made into British football hooligans. Always fond of a squig beer and a good fight. Armageddon is a planet because 40K humanity does not fuck around naming shit. This manly fucker leads the defence against the Orks in the Third War for Armageddon: He heard the Orks said he had the evil eye so he had his own missing one replaced with a laser to make it true. Then after an Ork got lucky and chopped his arm off, he grabbed it's Power Klaw and stuck it onto the empty shoulder.
Hope y'all had a good weekend. Today, the United Nations issued a report that basically says.... well, we're fucked. It's one of the most comprehensive reports to date on climate change, and it says that even if we were to implement aggressive measures to try and stabilize the temperature changes, we're already past the tipping point in some areas. The world's response to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past 18 months does not fill me with confidence that we're ready for the next catastrophe.
Hopefully we will give birth to a self aware AI which will be able to continue it's existence after we are gone. I wasn't too fond of humans anyway. The real loss will be for our feline overlords.
I only discovered the other week the backstory for Yarrick being captured and tortured by Ghazghull was written as a continuation of events in the classic ork/squat epic scale battle report. Also Tycho's face injuries were inflicted in a 40k battle report, the character being built from there. Plus the Horus Heresy was invented to explain why the original Titanicus had only one model of titan (the real world explanation was they only had one mould available) Fun times. Oh yes, the world is ending too.
We have energy to capture CO2 from the air and store it underground, but we need to decarbonize as much as possible first, not use it as "offsets" for avoidable behaviors that dump CO2 into the air. Things are going to have to change, and it's going to take more than EVs.
Yep, and Ghazghull himself just started as a standard Warboss used as an example of the kustomizin' options in the original Ork army list back in White Dwarf during the Beakie Marine era - he rolled for bioniks and got the metal plate in the noggin, not the best start for a Warboss. Then he rolled for the mental effects of said plate and got a random psyker power (Hammerhand) which made him a combat brute. So they came up with the backstory that the brain injury let him "hear" Gork and Mork telling him he had a destiny and that it gifted him with combat prowess. He slowly evolved from there in the story as winning more and more battles and basically became the Ork version of the Second Coming.
Everyone should start making emergency suicide plans if they haven't already. If it's not the climate, it'll be our neighbors going full "The Purge". Either way it's a horrible way to go. Better it be peaceful and under our own control.
I'm not planning to purge, but I'm up for a spot of wandering the wastelands scavenging what I need from the wreck of humanity. No killing unless anyone starts shit though. Like a good karma Fallout 3 run. I'm not fucking stepping into a radiation chamber to give you fuckers clean water though. You HAD that, and you pissed in it.
That is nice, but not for me. I am doing some purge things. Probably a whole lot of drugs, but if a trumpista happens upon my path at such a point I have a few questions about how the body works that I want answered before I die. I am pretty sure a person could actually swallow their own testicles, but I could do some scientific experiments just to make sure if the right subject were to be available.
Yeah, yeah, everyone thinks they're gonna be Frank Grillo in Purge 2, but wave after wave after wave of stupid fascist meat is gonna be pouring at you like zombies in The Walking Dead. There just aren't enough bullets. Even if you have Gatling guns, the ammo will run out before the meat wave stops.
You really have no idea how easy it is to infiltrate their ranks and take your pick of the prime. I am actually white and can easily blend in with the rednecks.
Report: ultra-catastrophic disaster is unlikely, but cannot be ruled out. Response: an ultra-catastrophic disaster is coming! Go back and review the history of fear-mongering on this subject. You'll find it's a never-ending parade of unlikely scenarios, ultra-pessimism, overstatement, and weasel-words (counts the "ifs" and the "mays"). But, by all means, worry, worry, worry. Meanwhile, your masters build beach houses near rapidly rising oceans and fly private jets to conferences where they cluck about reducing fossil fuel use. Read that the right way, and it's a very telling admission.
I don't deny anything. Humans emit CO2 in massive quantities, and that CO2 is altering the climate of the Earth and generally making it warmer. It is a problem and it will likely have some large negative consequences going forward. But it is not some existential crisis. Shove the whole "tipping point" scare-mongering. We know--know--that the content of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere has been many times higher in the past, and this did not lead to "runaway" heating. If anything, it occurred during points where life was super-abundant.
