You know what I saw tonight on my way home from work? An armadillo. They're not native to TN, but because the climate's been warming, they've been migrating northward. It's now warm enough in TN that they can survive the winters here. Folks can claim that scientists are lying about the planet warming up all they want, but the evidence is out there, if you're just willing to look at the world around you.

There's a lot of technical discussion here that will seem complex to some but the basic gist is this:
Data centers (generally referred to as hyper-scalers here) strain the grid and still can't get as much juice as they want, meanwhile building new power sources takes time - even wind and solar though faster can't just come online in the same year, plus there's the burden of connecting them to the grid and the grid being able to handle it.
(Proposed) solution? The hyper-scaler who's willing to pay big money for more juice capacity could fund upgrading the energy efficiency of grid customers (paying to replace electric furnaces with heat pumps, for example, or installing rooftop solar where appropriate) reducing the demand on the grid from those customers and freeing up electricity for the DCs. Also give utilities flexibility to upgrade their lines and connectivity (something else the hyper-scalers would pay for)
It's a low-key brilliant idea which means the corrupt idiots who make too many of our decisions will ignore it.

In other news, Kirabati would like the two islands they lost to rising sea levels back.

And CalTrans would rather not have to raise CA 37 by a foot as a stopgap to when they need to turn it into a full causeway.

Seems like a turning point has been reached.

Gates is sounding like Bjorn Lomborg and Michael Shellenberger now!

Will Gates be denounced for letting the world be destroyed?

It's not like you're in favor of fighting poverty and reducing human suffering, so it's a lateral shift from your viewpoint at best.

If the text posted is accurate, then Bill Gates is either stupid or pretending to be.

The implication seems to be that in a BAU scenario, that warming will reach some level and just arbitrarily stop, such that we can "adapt" and mitigate the effects. This is not the case.
