A few others have asked whether this rule affects Dinner or not. Personally, I'm fine with a rule that keeps disgusting sentiments out of thread titles for Google indexing and leave it at that.

As I understand it, Google would index thread content, too.

Careful... what is racism? Typing the n-word?

I'll give you a little example. Yesterday, I was out. Alone, writing a story that plays in a bar. So I went to a neighborhood bar, observing people and writing on the laptop. Of course I had a few drinks too. Some girl came over and asked me what I was writing since it was night and obviously not work related. I let her read a rather fun dialogue I had overheard on the next table and adapted to my story. We talked for a bit. We had a blast and a few more drinks. Girltalk. Turns out she was Jewish by birth but not religious. Then I jokingly told her I once had an intern who was Jewish. Which, back then, was the first thing he said to me right after his name. Also told her my response which was basically 'I don't give a flying fuck, get me a cup of coffee'.

And then I was branded anti semitic

Fer chrissakes, me?! That's considered anti semitism/racism? Really? Then by all means, in that case I'm a raging racist. Because I just don't care what somebody is but who. Pray to the Holy Lambchop for all I care. Just don't try to convert me.

Story ended well. Think I have a new friend now (and still a massive hangover). But it's an example of how very murky those waters are. Where is the line? Still OK to wish death upon all Muslims? Or is that now reasons for banning people? And so on, and so forth.

I get it that you don't want hate content on the board. I fully agree. But ask yourselves: Where is the line and can one even draw it without going full authoritarian? Also, why do people assume that minorities can't defend themselves and have to be protected?

Well it's the same old problem, in that the line cannot be drawn. That is why we didn't make a list of forbidden words or topics, for example. People still need to self-police, but we want them on notice that if they are really pushing the racist angle, they are violating our TOS and might be tossed or otherwise penalized as a result.
