If he opened in North Park he would be killing it and would have the magic money machine. The place would be packed every night. Point Loma near the Sports Area would probably also do well. Downtown could work though the rent would likely be too high as they originally said they were going to Barrio Logan because rents in the gas lamp were too high for their business model. Any where in central or coastal county and he would be mobbed by customers demanding he take their money.

Honestly, North Park (just north of Balboa Park) or Hillcrest would be ideal in my mind. Centrally located for both north and south county residents, walkable with a lot of foot traffic, neighborhoods definitely gentrifying, but with a clear history going back to the 1920's.

Maybe Liberty Station? Though rents would probably be a problem there too. The public food market there is cool though I generally don't feel like paying twice the price for things simply because it is sold in a nice location.

Lemon Grove would be good. The area could use the business, there's still plenty of places that have parking and outside of Skyline drive (which is mostly residential), it's pretty safe. Plus all the non-transplant black folks in the county live there and we could use a good chicken joint.

Meant to mention this before now, but got busy and forgot about it. For Thanksgiving, work gave everybody a 15 lb turkey, and I wasn't able to sucker anyone to take the thing off my hands. I like turkey, but with it being just me, there wasn't any way I could hope to finish the thing off. I also don't have enough room in my freezer, so I knew I couldn't hope to save much of the leftovers. Realizing this, I decided to experiment.

For the turkey, I made a rub which was equal parts Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper, red curry paste, and bourbon. Instead of putting things like potatoes and carrots in the bag with the turkey, I stuck baby bell peppers, onions, and corn on the cob. I made spicy mashed potatoes, Chorizo and cornbread stuffing, and for the gravy, I used the KFC gravy recipe with the turkey parts instead of the cracklins.

The only problem was that the stuffing taste was so strong, it just really didn't blend with the rest of the things I made. The other stuff, though, was great. For breakfast the next morning, I made scrambled eggs, mixing in some of the stuffing, some salsa, and a Mexican cheese blend. That worked quite well.

I haven't yet been to Howlin' Ray's here in L.A., but it's reputed to be some of the best fried chicken around (Nashville style, spicy, double-dredged). Here's the recipe.

KFC attempts to solve both the climate crisis and attract vegans by making fake chicken. One assumes that by hooking a generator up to the Colonel's rapidly spinning corpse they'll be able to generate oodles of green energy.

Hmm. This recipe doesn't have near the seasonings of KFC but it does have wine.

Perhaps a hybridization of the two is in order.

I don’t know about Canada, but supposedly, if your flour mixture is equal parts all purpose, rice flour, and corn flour (or maybe just a bit of corn starch instead of the corn flour), you get a really crispy coating after frying. I can definitely see KFC in Japan having some rice flour in their mix.

During the glory years of Florida State football everybody assumed it was Bobby Bowden's down-home charm that lured so many blue chip recruits to Tallahassee. However, it turns out that the real secret weapon was the honey fried chicken in the athletic dining hall. :techman:
