Who is your least likeable character in each Trek? I'll start SNW: Ortegas (by a country mile) Prodigy: Don't watch so can't comment PIC: Raffi LD: Rutherford DSC: Grey ENT: Her that wanted to bang Phlox VOY: Neelix DS9: No one springs to mind. TNG: Wesley Crusher (who else) TOS/TAS: Chekov.
I never understood the hate for Wesley. Maybe it's because I was 12 when TNG came out and could identify with that character, but some fans act like he was a cancer or something. I'd argue Troi was a far worse character and if taken off the show she wouldn't have been missed. TOS I like everyone, Ds9 the same. Agree on neelix for Voyager and the same for Enterprise. SNW I'd say Ortega is a weak character, but that just cause there hasn't been much of a focus on her. The rest of the new trek series are pretty bad so pick any of the above as far as I'm concerned
I think part of the reason why DISCO was so hated, other than the crappy writing, is that there weren't a ton of likeable characters on the show. Burnham, Booker, Saru and Tilly were simply fucking awful. And that's four of the main protagonists. I really liked Stamets and Culbert. And Reno (in later seasons) was a lot of fun. Detmer and Owosekun also could have been interesting but they ultimately got the shaft as mainly background characters.
TOS: Kirk. It is not really a hate thing, it is that I like him the least TNG: Dr. Pulaski or ensign Ro. Here is general dislike. I actually like Wesley for what they did with him. DS9: Odo. He is such a fucking buzzkill downer. Voyager: Neelix is the easy answer, but I will say season 1 and 2 B'ellana. I did come to love her later. Prodigy: Dal. He is fucking annoying, but he does end up being a decent person. Lower Decks: Shaxs. Not hate, but wouldn't miss him. For the rest I have not seen enough of to comment.
Nog, by a mile over any other Trek character. I know Aaron Eisenberg could act because he proved it in "Far Beyond the Stars", but I hated his approach to Nog throughout the entire series with that ov-er-ly en-un-ci-at-ed dialogue delivery. No other actor portraying Ferengi delivered lines that way.
I'm not that invested in any of the shows to hate any of the characters. Regarding Nog, he is kind of a Ferengi version of Data. He's the character on a long character arc who wants to be something other than a true Ferengi. Not necessarily hoo-mon, but he still wants to something other than what his race wants him to be. His different way of speaking may be a deliberate choice to set him apart. Hey! Why don't we ask him? Oh that's right... Never mind....
DS9 is the only show where I actually enjoyed the Ferengi. Every other show I just cringed when they came on. They are not threatening villains and are best used as occasional comedy relief.
Heart of Stone, three seasons earlier: I cut the accent a lot of slack because Nog was portrayed as illiterate early on - his speech might also be affected by learning WHERE to put the emphasis on syllables.
I find it interesting how people like or dislike certain characters depending on the age when they first saw the character. Many of us first saw TNG as teenagers or young adults. Those who were kids or teens in the 80s dislike a peer who seemed to be a know-it-all, but adults do not get the hate. Characters that buck authority tend to be favorites of teens and characters that submissively do as they’re told tend to be favorites of parents.
There aren't a lot of characters I dislike in Star Trek. Most of the time it's just indifference. I know what it's like in dislike characters. I hated Buffy in her own series, for instance. And I likewise couldn't stand Sookie in True Blood after season 2. But Star Trek? Not many I can think of that I disliked. Even the ones people usually mention (Neelix, Wesley) had strong episodes I thought outweighed any negativity.
TOS: Outside of the main cast, I always hated McGivers falling for Khan. She should know better. TNG: I used to hate Wesley, but I grew to like him so I guess Duras. DS9: Tain. I mean, what a jackass that guy is. I like the actor and I like the way he's portrayed, but Tain is an unlikable character. VOY: Easy, Kess ENT: Silik DSC: Grey Prodigy: Jakom Pog LDS: ETA: I changed my pick to Peanut Hamper PIC: Raffi SNW: Ortegas
yeah, I can't figure out why they gave Jankom a Yoda speech defect when even other Tellarites don't share his syntax I don't get the Raffi hate though? She actually has some fleshed out PTSD in her backstory, so is kinda sympathetic and I'd daresay decently written with that in mind.
It really comes down to her annoyingly saying "JL", it's so cringe worthy. I will say that her character improved over time, but not by much.
that's not totally unreasonable, I guess. Never gave it much thought beyond the telegraphing of their familiarity. Figuring she served with Picard for several years, it's unsurprising that outside of when protocol dictated they'd be on first name basis. Individual interpersonal relationships are all unique, and that affects how we address each other. I've one co worker who I'll address alternately between her full name, a shortened version (sometimes with an s at the end), and on occasion simply by her first initial. All depends on the situation and environment. I also sometimes call her "dude". I call everybody dude... but I'm not Picard.
It didn't really bother me, because I had a friend name Johnpaul (as in the Pope), but everyone called him JP. Which annoyed me. So I just called him by his last name.
if only we could rep the but yeah, there's not likely a good way to pull it off. besides, you possibly are the only guy here with better hair than I've got (depending on where you're at since that one pic you posted). What could be worth going cue ball for???
