Remember when DeSantis was going to cancel Disney's special taxing district when he went Uncle Albert over Disney's allegedly going "woke" by opposing the "Don't Say Gay" bill? Faced with hanging residents of Osceola County with a billion dollar tax bill, not to mention it finally dawning on him that shitting on the state's largest employer might be a bad idea, he's making noises about backing off.

Florida lawmakers may reverse the decision to strip Walt Disney of the right to govern the land that includes Disney World, restoring many of the provisions of the special governing jurisdiction.

Gov. Ron DeSantis' office said the governor “does not make U-turns” but said a plan is in the works and will be made public soon.

I have heard it a little differently that Disney changed CEOs and the one who spoke against don't day gay is gone and they brought back an old one that is not going to be as woke so the reps figure the message was sent and the proper chilling effect on woke was gained. It may not be true, but the purpose was to stop the direction of the new disney head and he ended up out of the job and Disney is returning to the old leadership that was not speaking out against Desantis hate policy.

This is exactly what Desantis and his anti-woke agenda wants. He wants to silence the allies and people who teach the truth. He wants less criticism and is unsing fear tio get it. Even while the Don't say Gay bill is slowly getting removed by the courts, the effect is it frightens school employees to push those kids away because it might get them fired if some other parent complains. The ban does not need to be there if teachers and administrators turn their backs of GLBT students and the truth about whitewashed history.

This is all about shutting the allies up and making them complicit in racism and anti-gay abuse.

This is not a win because every person in the Disney admin learned to STFU or else the company will take it on the chin. Even if it does not work out in the end the company does not want trouble because a CEO got mouthy to the republicans.

From the news I am not actually fully able to see who ended up winning here. Everybody from the right wing trumpistas to the left wing people agrees Disney should not have special tax breaks and should be paying to fund florida because the state bends over backwards for that land, and Disney cannot do Their Orlando park anywhere else. It is not just the year round florida climate that allows them to operate a park in "paradise" like no other. It is the whole Central Florida Area that makes Disney able to reap the benefits from a huge tourist destination like no other. Granted the presence of Disney made that development obvious, but you have a ton of parks, the space coast, major multi vehicle transport hubs, the state's highway system, and the development of multiple industries like gambling and florida hollywood there.

From what I understand the ability for Disney to profit from their presence has not been stopped at all. They are not going to lose any breaks, they are still able to issue bonds and the only thing that seems to have happened is the governor can now post their own people to the town board. Those are just cushy high paid positions for the republican (or dem if they ever win the state) elite. That is a huge bribe to the people in charge, and we know behind the scenes there is going to be huge benefits to disney getting breaks over other parks, waste disposal, and environmental damage.

Desantis gets to look like he has put a leash on Disney. Disney gets to play the victim and will be allowed to shut up and not have to be inclusive which they are way behind on, and the right wing is happy. Disney is going to get to rape the employees and the environment because the republican town board is never going to make any regulations to make corporate disney pay their workers, power their land with renewables over oil, and they will get to pollute like a motherfucker from the huge house of mouse.

Meanwhile the left is holding up disney as the loser in the woke battle despite the reality Disney is conservative family oriented like a motherfucker. Disney had to be dragged to do a darker shade of brown, and still has white people making money off of cultural appropriation. Disney only really teases GLBT characters. They do not have an officially sanctioned gay week like everyone thinks, but they do have an officially sanctioned christian week. I know employees, all the work for the gay days in Disney is actually organized by outsiders with some influence inside. Where Disney actually caters to christian churches with official discounts and reservations during their christian time.

I know, wall of text, but I am bitching so it keeps on going. Read up and learn, or be an @Uncle Albert I do not care.

I actually know a bunch of gays over at Disney in florida. One of my really good gay friends from NY moved with his husband and got a dream job working for Disney. He works for Disney because he loves the job. The pay sucks, the regulations are horrible, but he is a amusement park junkie and he is a stereotypical fairy faggot. The only real difference is he is not overly sexual. The dude has fairy wings and a huge lisp. He is animated and loves having fun with the families bringing them into the park activities. He also loves Disney productions, musicals, and he has a fluffy pastel florida house. His Husband has the bigger paying money job and he is awesome at being the manfairy he is. He is not trans and loves being a man, but he embraces princess things because they are awesome.

I have hung with a bunch of Disney fags on a number of occasions, and house of mouse is all about flirting with the fairy attitude while not admitting to being gay. It is very be gay but don't say gay at the florida park. I cannot speak about other parks because I have not met a bunch of the crew. On the gay days they can be a little more open in support of gay people, but gay opponents are politely encouraged to select other dates but not directly told those days are gay. Where for the christian days they really come out for the churches and will say those are the christian days to non-christians.

Gay men are allowed to go after more expressive, childish, and feminine things. Working for Disney becomes a trap because there is that excuse that you work for an animation company that has princesses and fluffy, sparkly, singey, fun. It is fucking gay both in literal meaning and as stereotypical homosexual faggotry. I use those words in this instance positively and with love because they should not be shameful. Your flamboyant faggot type is a fun person. Disney takes advantage of them by bringing all of their faggot flair to the table and then hides homosexuality like a shameful sin.

It is perverting people along with the idea that heterosexual sex is some sort of sin. It is actually causing psychosis and mental troubles like toxic masculinity.

Are they, though? I don't feel one iota of pain for Disney for all the reasons you've laid out and more but the idea of government punishing a corporation for their political views, even if this is all for show, is disturbing and concerning and you can be damn sure a President DeSantis will be pulling this shit on a national level.

We can hate Disney and still realize what a dangerous precedent this will set moving forward.

Disney seems to be taking lessons from another animated classic - Bugs Bunny. LOL.

Disney World board picked by DeSantis says predecessors stripped them of power

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Board members picked by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to oversee the governance of Walt Disney World said Wednesday that their Disney-controlled predecessors pulled a fast one on them by passing restrictive covenants that strip the new board of many of its powers.

The current supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said at a meeting that their predecessors last month signed a development agreement with the company that gave Disney maximum developmental power over the theme park resort's 27,000 acres in central Florida.

The five supervisors were appointed by the Republican governor to the board after the Florida Legislature overhauled Disney's government in retaliation for the entertainment giant publicly opposing so-called "Don't Say Gay" legislation that bars instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, as well as lessons deemed not age-appropriate

As a Florida resident I’m a bit annoyed that the media hasn’t picked up on the taxpayer expense angle. The people DeSantis appointed have no experience running theme parks or large scale developments. So they have hired multiple attorneys, accountants, and consultants to tell them what to do.

Disagree with four fifths of the statement but I bet it’ll work with the Loser Base.

    Ouch:

Senior @RealDonaldTrump campaign staffer just now: "President Trump wrote 'Art of the Deal' and brokered Middle East peace. Ron DeSantis just got out-negotiated by Mickey Mouse."

As a florida resident who gets and reads a few southern Fl papers and talks to south florida people I find that the media has been complaining about the tax problem desantis made,, and the people know it is there. I have to admit I am not familiar with floribama or shitbread places like Ocala which might have vastly different media and are obviously more likely to be ijn the faux news media bubble, but it is not really the fault of the media here whenb the people on the right refuse to aknowledge facts and seek out desantis friendly media for their local news.

For the huge chunk of sane people in the duh this is an obvious issue with voting red, but you cannot do much about it when the best the dfems in the state can run vs deu furor is a republican political hack who switched to the dems has been fucking losing every race he has gotten into and the dems keep backing him. You cannot blame the media for Dems running Christ.

You also cannot blame the media for people choosing an obviously hostile candidate to their demographic because they did not like wearing masks. Seriously, getting arrested and deported, along with losing mention of racism, and the obvious criminalization of drag was so much less problematic then wearing some cloth on your face during a pandemic that was killing people left and right. Log Cabin republicans, uncle toms, and latinX right wing housekeeps and fruit pickers in the state deserve all they get after backing him. The positivity the republican party got after killing off so many people because they kep everything open and spread as much death as possible while lying about it is amazing.

But pawns are there for using. The media cannot be blamed for people who ignore the truth. It is not surprising that florida would elect someone who is out to steal from them and kill them after scott won and then went to congress to end medicare and SS.

I think we just learned that Ron DeSantis only plays 1D chess. This agreement passed on 2/8, the day before the bill ending RCID was voted on, even with FL's sunshine laws. If they actually cared a whit about running Reedy Creek, his lawyers would have been all over those hearings. But they weren't. And yet, Disney didn't declare victory on 2/8. No, they waited until just after DeSantis's "victory" had left the news cycle, and then forced it back in, as a massive loss for DeSantis, which people will be talking about for weeks. They just completely humiliated him, and this is quite possibly a fatal blow to his presidential aspirations. Even setting aside policy disagreements, this makes it look like he'd be a weak, ineffectual President, who can't even get his way by being a bully.

    Nice job, Mouse, nice job.

Doesn't even look like Disney forced it back in. They just had their lawyers fix the situation, and then didn't bother talking about it more not just because they had beat DeSantis, but because they wanted to treat him as irrelevant. This only came up once his lackeys got in, went to do something, and then started complaining they didn't have the power they thought they did.

I have no idea why DeSantis decided it's under his purview to fuck with tax agreements that have been in place for damn near a hundred years and fuck up everything until he understands without understanding how his inerference is fucking up everything else.

But, as far as Disney and their financials, it's my understanding the CEO decided Disney should be Marvel and Star Wars and not traditional Disney and therefore spent a shit load of money on intellectual properties rather than investing in Disney itself.

Two entirely separate problems, neither of which should have any bearing on the direction of future Star Wars stories. But, I'm certain both issues will find a way to fuck wit it anyway.

Disney has never been about representation - it's still horribly backward in most respects. But any deviation from straight white casts is seen as such by the DeSantis types.

This happened over Disney backing GAYS. Y'know, a part of society pretty much the whole fucking civilized world accepts these days. And THAT is too much for Florida.
