I am having an unusually light day today. Yesterday they told me to come in two hours early because there was supposedly so much to do then nothing really happened until an hour later, I did a few hours of stuff in the La Jolla area, helped a few of the younger guys get ready for a last second business trip to do field work in Texas (I told the boss I wasn't interested in outdoor work in Texas during the summer and besides the 23 year olds work for less so better to send them) so they went home to pack and get ready for this evening's plane flight and I got to take a nice relaxing two hour lunch break.

I decided to go to a PI place and the mall where the restaurant was had a live music band playing to attract more patrons so I relaxed, slowly ate my food, and listened to some local indy rock band. It sure beats yesterday's 13.5 hour work day. I might even go home early just because I can or maybe I bill them for a full eight hours even though I am not doing much.

Today's lunch was a $10.99 all you can eat Indian lunch buffet some where in darkest Irvine. Over all it was kind of meh though the goat curry was at least good even if the fucker made absolutely no effort to remove the bone fragments.

On the downside I am back in the office and suffering from the worst curry tinged gas ever. :?:

It used to be easy to find cabrito at restaurants around town here, but it's become pretty hard to locate in recent years. I grew up on that stuff.

Isn't goat curry more of a West Indian thing? I've only ever had it made by Jamaicans.

There are some cross-cultural forces at work there, of course. IIRC our own @Lt. Mewa is partly descended from Asian Indians who migrated to the West Indies.

those are good! And they don't take up a lot of volume/have a lot of weight so they don't slow you down during your busy workday.

It claimed to be a South Indian restaurant but my Indian cowork said it was far to mild to be south Indian. It was named Miannapoorna located off Walnut near the Jeffereys St exit on the I5.

Edit: I just spoke with my coworker and he said goat curry is common in south Indian food.

    http://www.miannapoorna.com

That is their website and goat curry is part of their lunch buffet.

Today was Rutherford's Diner established 1949. I had their June Gloom Burger (jalapeno, cream cheese, and bacon) with a side of onion rings and a house made chocolate shake. Lots of 1950's music played and the original building with lots of stainless steel and neon signs & period nick-nacks provided a nice feel. The pictures of JFK there in 1963 were kind of cool.

The old neon sign from 1949 was kind of funky too especially since it tells everyone that the restaurant has air conditioning. In 1949 that might have been a big deal but in 2017 not so much. It still helps with the period feel especially since it all really does come from that time.

Stopped off at one of those express Chinese places, appropriately named Asian Express. Wound up getting two chicken teriyaki on a stick and a drink. Cost me two bucks plus tax. It was actually pretty good and surprisingly filled me up.

Their burger was actually pretty good though a bit on the expensive side. Fresh never frozen using custom ground beef which they grind in house. The bun was baked down the block at another locally run place which has been there for decades.

It kind of reminds me of a higher quality Bob's Big Boy.

Today was Mr Moto's Pizza. Two slices and a coke for $7.50 and they threw in a pizza knot with marinara dipping sauce because I liked them on Facebook. They have some interesting topping combinations and it each slice is huge, super thin NYC style crust, but the end rust manages to be fluffy inside yet chewy outside. At the table they have granulated garlic, crushed red pepper, parmagian cheese, dried basil, black pepper, and salt. I use all but salt.

It is located on 30th Street which has become something like the beating geat of North Park. The intersection of 30th and University has a ton of pedestrian traffic, bicyclists, and bearded hipsters on motorscooters.

Lunch (and dinner) is my beef pot roast.12 hours in the slow cooker, so the meat just falls apart. For lunch I threw a big pile of the meat on a sourdough bun with the sliced potatoes, some hand shredded sharp cheddar and a splash of white vinegar. Dinner will have the meat in a stew style with the whole buttery baby potatoes (pierced with a toothpick before going into the pot so the sauce so it will penetrate the skin and soak in the potato) baby carrots and celery.

I was working out at NAS El Centro today and didn't take a proper lunch so when I was driving back on Interstate 8 I decided to stop at D.Z. Akin's which is my favorite local Jewish Delicatessen/Diner. Their prices are still high but their house made pastrami is top notch, their pickles are house made and you get s many as you want, plus I can usually sweet talk them into throwing in a sour tomato or two (pickled green tomato).

I have discovered cheese straws. My god, where have these lovely things been all my life? I am positive they are a high calories, low nutrient, junk food but they are glorious when dipped in freshly made English spicy mustard.
