I mean, it was damned near a cartoon anyway. The live-action cast will return as the voices. One of the Family Guy guys who isn't Seth will be producer. https://www.darkhorizons.com/married-with-children-gets-animated/
There was a comic book in the early 90's. Here's some covers to help you imagine what the cartoon might look like...
I don't see how it would work as present day. There is no way a shoe salesman would be able to support a family of four and own a home in the Chicago suburbs unless he's doing some Breaking Bad shit on the side. He'd have to at least be a regional manager of a chain of shoe stores, which would change the entire premise of the show. 80s/90s sitcoms about poor families are depressing now and someone owes me money.
They’ll probably have to tone it down compared to what they used to do and say in the show. The clutching of pearls and shrieking by loud fringe woke people like @Diacanu would be unbearable
Yep. I watched a couple episodes recently on Hulu. Holy shit that wouldn't work today. Al just fires off ten fat jokes in a row to a customer. It was awesome. Fat people are terrible but for some reason we stopped saying it.
honestly I think they'd tone it down because that shit doesn't get nearly the neilsen numbers it once did... they wouldn't be able to hold an audience that didn't arrive with a nostalgia factor (i.e.: under 45).
It's important to remember that the only reason folks cared about Married With Children was that some good Christian woman with a pinched mean, hateful face, tried to get the show canceled because she didn't like the fact that it showed Al scratching his balls. Suddenly, people decided that they had to watch the show, and that was enough to boost its ratings numbers to keep it on air for years to come.
Yeah, because what Al says at the ~6-minute mark (suggesting that Marci wear a burqa) is absolutely non-offensive.
I always thought that when they knew the original show was in its last season, they should have had Al win a huge jackpot in the lottery. Then show that despite the mega millions he was still as miserable as ever. Could always use a premise like that in the relaunch. Aside - during the show's run, I never understood Al's aversion to having sex with Peggy. Even under the ridiculous hair and clothes, Katey Sagal is freakin' hot.
Yeah I was specifically thinking of the thousands and thousands of fat woman jokes, some funny, some downright mean but just aren't part of our current television content Also Bud lays into Kelly 4-5 times an episode about being a dirty slut
isn't that exactly what the last season of Roseanne did before folding into another over used trope of it being in her imaginary book and Dan being dead?
Actually, it's not really offensive (not to Muslims anyway). He's basically just saying she needs to cover her face because she's so ugly. The joke isn't about the burqa; it's about Marci. Context is important.
Christina Applegate has MS and isn't going to on-camera act anymore, but she'll still voice-act for this show. For as long as she can, anyway. https://www.darkhorizons.com/applegate-steps-back-from-screen-acting/
