Merging Starscape and WF

Having read the comments in the Help Desk, I think it's time for the two boards to fully merge. The Starscape community would become a full part of WF, and the various threads and posts would simply be relocated to the Green Room, where the rules and atmosphere are almost exactly the same. In doing so, I would also like to have Larry as a Mod for the Green Room. Hey, we can have two things!

Otherwise, the merge would finally be complete. I will also be sending out a mass email to former Starscape members who never really moved or returned, and will try to get them to come back and see how things are now. Hopefully they will do so. It would be nice, as we used to have about 300 members at one point. It's worth a shot, anyway.

Larry as Green Room mod would be great, especially since our official mod for that room hardly ever posts.

Sure. But after you move all the threads, keep the room. Rename it The Minefield and make @Bickendan the mod. Lets see what happens.

So far there are two votes for "yes" and three for "teh baba," and all five were cast by pre-merger Wordforge people.

I doubt most members will end up objecting. This has been home for them for over a year. They're used to the community, used to the layout. Changing names and merging won't make much difference.

Somehow we need to keep the Starscape name or Maddy will get lost. How bout the Green Starscape room?

I am firm on us not eliminating the name. I'm also not clear that a case has been made for meeging with the Green Room. The Grey/Red precedent is not compelling, since the Grey room hadn't been active at all in several months -- not one post in that time. Green and Starscape both see daily activity most of the time.

Personally, I'd rather keep the rooms separate. I like the Green Room the way it is, with various "lighter" topics but not the silliness of games and such. I never went into those "lounge" type rooms at TNZ because that's all they were filled with and that's what most of the Starscape forum's activity is here.

If you want to eliminate some clutter, I'd be good with folding Camp Wordforge into the Green Room. That forum sees very, very little activity. IIRC, it was originally set up so people who like guns could discuss them in a non-flaming atmosphere. The Green Room is a non-flaming forum.

Well, Larry and Maddy voted no, and know the other Starscapers well enough to know that they'd also vote no, so I guess that's that.

Yep. It seems that folks want the Starscape lounge to remain. I'm not going to push back on that.

The only other original poster still around is voyagergirl, who now posts as alankeet for some reason. Can we change her name back John ? , she said she wanted to earlier. I cannot do that for her.

Interesting. Would the Starscape Lounge be a better place for say the picture or youtube threads, the ones like game threads that while they may fall off the front page, are posted to over long periods of time?

Anc beat me to it (was busy at work today and haven't hopped online till now). Seems like a good way to get more blood flowing into the
Starscape side of the house.

I have no interest in moving those thread there at all. They were started in the Green Room and should stay there.

Listening to the Starscapers that don't want the forum rolled into another is a smart move.
Lonaf was in a very similar situation when I joined -- we had a large influx of 'refugee' members calling themselves the Wastoids immigrate from a Warhammer 40k board when their forum, the ChaosWastes, got deemed too spammy.
I don't think it was even a full year when the Lonaf staff decided to force the Wastoids to integrate with the rest of the board by merging the NeoWastes with the Promenade. While some did integrate, it was because they already had, like Larry here. The rest slowly drifted away.

I'm all for having the Starscapers integrate, but it has to be on their own terms.

Yep. Seeing the results is enough for me to know that Starscape isn't ready for that move just yet.

I can post anywhere, I am used to change and can get along with just about anyone. As for people like Maddy and Voy, they would just stop posting. They feel safe in the starscape room. As Maddy pointed out in her post she would just leave. I am all for NEW topics and NEW posters in the Starscape lounge.

So there's an idea, then -- attracting more content and posters to the Starscape Lounge. I agree with those who have said that the Loiunge and Green Room aren't precisely analogous. One thought, then, is that we could be pro-active about moving some GR threads. Maybe not the old ones, but as a new one crops up that seems more Lounge-like, we move it, leaving a re-direct link. Over time, people will start to get a feel for things. I do not feel qualified for determining what belongs in the Lounge, as I'm an infrequent visitor myself. @Larry and @John, would you be willing to monitor Green for the occasional thread move?

I tend to keep an eye out in any forum I'm in, so sure.

All of oldfella's parody threads could be moved there.

I dunno, it always kind of throws me when a Red Room thread gets a parody that ends up in the Green Room. Less so now that I use "New Posts" more than anything else, but somebody who mostly just goes to the lounge might be thrown by random parodies popping up there, especially if they don't hang out in the Red Room where the originals were.

Yeah, I'd say parodies generally belong in the same room as the original.

Whatever it takes to get them out of the Green Room.
