Might Want to Grab Some Physical Media While You Still Can

If paperbacks had a coin of some magic gravitic alloy in the binder that let the publishers suck it off your shelf, out your window, and back to the warehouse 1.) no one would stand for it, and there'd be No Kings sized protests 2.) people would be hacking those coins off with Exacto knife surgery 3.) there'd be thousands of YT videos of tutorials for said surgery.

I think this is why my lit class last semester all said, almost 100%, that they prefer physical books to digital.
I think the younger generations are realizing the folly of digital.

Also, when all of the things you have to do are on a screen, it probably makes the prospect of non-screen leisure time more appealing.

One of the things that I prefer with an actual book is that if I'm reading the book again later, or want to go back and reread a certain part, I can use my thumb to flick through the pages and can read the corner of the page fast to find the page I want very quickly. With a ebook I have to go through one page at a time and take a few minutes to go through the pages.

I like the way actual books smell. Either a brand new one or one that's old.

This. I have about 3,000 eBooks, but I still have about 200 physical books on a bookshelf my dad built for my cousins more than 30 years ago. He wants me to get rid of it but I refuse because 1) he built it, and 2) it's sturdy as fuck.

There's something very special about books, especially ones you buy used, and find old dog eared pages or underlines. The idea that someone else's point of view was changed by the very same text in your hands right now.

No one's gonna be impressed by a movie with a wizard, detective, or mad scientist who has all their shit in a Kindle and no physical library.
Christ, can you imagine an Evil Dead remake where Ash gets the Necronomicon as an attachment, and he just punts it to spam?

I probably have around the same number of physical books as you have eBooks (maybe more--there are a lot).

I own no books that require electricity.

I wish I had 3,000 physical books. I've given a few hundred away, mostly when we moved to this tiny apartment because I had no room. I do believe eBooks are very convenient when space is at a premium. I'm hoping, should I ever actually have money again someday, I can start buying physical books again.

One of the gifts I got for my birthday today was the blu-ray of the entire original Star Trek series.
My wife joked she hasn't seen me that happy since I got my first book published.

I got all of DS9, VOY and Lower Decks on DVD, as well as DVDs of a few anime from the 2000s that are no longer in print or legally streamed anywhere.

I asked my younger child to go to the other parent’s house and get my disc copy of word/excel/Access and mail it to me. I have found a way to disconnect from the cloud. I just need the software.

Seems like every time I move, I give away more books than furniture or clothes or any other material posessions I amass. I was going to say except this time, but I have accumulated probably 20 books in the last 3 years.
