Not even gonna post a link because I know you've all heard of it.

First of all, what the fuck? Why aren't DeSantis and Abbot being charged with human trafficking?

Second of all, lol that DeSantis paid for this with Florida's money when these people were actually in Texas.

Third of all, good on the people of Martha's Vineyard for actually treating these refugees as human beings.

Fourth of all, other racists 60 years ago did this very same thing: https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2022/09/16/reverse-freedom-rides-marthas-vineyard-desantis/

I often find it humorous that people like DeSantis claim to be Christians. As if Jesus would be on board with lying to people and treating them like political pawns.

He put minority boogie men on a common carrier and shipped them hundreds of miles away to labor elsewhere.
It’s very on brand for him, really.

So they're not "pawns" when they're allowed to overrun "red" states in the southwest with no solid Federal plan to handle them, but when they start showing up in the insulated enclave of wealth and privilege, now it's a problem. Now they're props to score political points. Not before. Nope. :nono:

Whether it's trafficking depends on whether or not you can prove the migrants didn't consent or were coerced into consenting. Apparently they were made to sign waivers, but this may be the result of coercion or deception, particularly if they didn't understand any of the languages the forms were presented in.

Ah yes, because there is absolutely no difference between a person going somewhere of their own volition and ... not.

Actually, it sounds like the residents of Martha's Vineyard are welcoming them with open arms. Them being there isn't the issue. The issue is they were sent there against their will as a political stunt. How can you not understand the difference?

and by "over run" he means "are sent back to where they came from"?

working in urban homeless services as I do, one glaring thing is that 9/10 clients are from different area codes, if not provinces.

Given how this has backfired this is not even in the top ten god awful illegal things demoron is doing this afternoon. On top of that you have every other illegal thing the rep criminal organization is getting away with daily because we have a DOJ that will never charge them.

In reality the republicans love the idea of wasting taxpayer money to own the libs, even if it does not do that. Faux news and liemax will just pretend the dems are freaking out about this because they hate immigrants like the racist right.

Unfortunately this is barely even a story when it comes to FF and UAs prefered ideas that you put all of the brown people into a concentration camp and torture them to death for not being white and useless.

One of the many things DeathSantis doesn't know is that while Martha's Vineyard has lots of nice mansions and compounds owned by people who use "summer" as a verb, the people who actually live there are not particularly wealthy. Many of them also spend the entire tourist season working two or three jobs so that they'll be able to get through the winter, so that makes the way they've pulled together to help the people that DeathSantis views as nothing more than props for his childish political games even more impressive.

Or he is just too stupid to understand the difference between ‘Following Federal and International Law’ (people are allowed to claim asylum at nearest entry) and ‘Violating Federal and International Law’ (human trafficking).

It's interesting when people with not much in the way of personal wealth are willing to dig deep and help those with even less. Of course, I'm sure UA would be outraged by the very idea...

Oh he knows. He’s spent months on the island all together. He graduated from Harvard AND Yale after all.

He just knows that his followers don’t know so doesn’t care.

Remember that no one in America has more contempt for Republican voters than Republican politicians.

Depending on which highway you take, I live 1.5-2.5 hours from the border.

    Not overrun even a little.

And wtf does “overrun” even mean? Massive refugee camps like you see in the movies? Or the odd taco truck on the corner?

In Ireland there's a memorial to the Choctaw Indian tribe. During the worst of the potato famine the Choctaws, who were struggling to survive in the face of the Great American Genocide, scraped together a few bucks for the Irish. I'm sure some groups or individuals gave more, but I guaran-fucking-tee that no one made a contribution that cost them more dearly.

Not seeing it. Could totally be missing something but not seeing it.

One is power hungry. Was born to the right people and handed the money and a plan (Harvard-Yale-Military-Prosecutor-House-Governor-?) to achieve their ambitions. They are living their dream.

The other has no ambitions and has gone nowhere with their life. Being a Nowhere is frustrating and they lash out because of it.

Only connection I see is that the former has learned how to channel the frustrations of the latter to the furtherance of their ends and the detriment of the Nowheres.
