Second sister is new or did we se her in Fallen Order? By the way, as cool as this series is so far, I’ve never cared for the inquisitors.
Second Sister was created purely for Fallen Order. She hasn't appeared in Obi-Wan. As for the Grand Inquisitor, his apparent demise here puts a new spin on his final line in Rebels when he tells Kanan (who despite everything is willing to save his life) that "there are worse things than death" before willingly falling into the reactor core of his Star Destroyer. At the time, it seems he's merely aware of what Vader will do to him if he survives having failed so spectacularly. But possibly he HAS actually experienced some form of twisted resurrection/healing via Sith techniques?
Leia gets the last laugh about her cousin (most likely). When Alderaan gets destroyed by the Death Star, he goes with it. So at least Leia has that.
Not bad. I was entertained. Still seems unnecessary. Zero tension since we all know Obi Wan, Luke, Leia, and Owen all survive the series. Leia’s cousin was fucking annoying, wasn’t he? That’s the type of guy you just want to punch in the face. I was wondering how long the space salmon they were carving the meat out of would stay fresh? I would think after the first day or two the meat is no longer edible, especially being out in the hot desert like that. I’m guessing Reva was one of the Jedi younglings we saw in the opening scene. It might explain how she knows Anakin is Darth Vader? No one is supposed to know about that except the Emperor. Even guys like Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn did not know about that though they probably guessed it and never dared to speak it out loud in front of Vader.
So that Clone Trooper, I’m guessing he didn’t have the inhibitor chip or somehow didn’t recognize Obiwan because shouldn’t order 66 still be active?
Didn't recognize most likely. Even if he had served with Anakin and thus might have seen Kenobi back in the day, this is years later and the clone isn't at his best mentally. Short of swinging a lightsaber around, Ben could be any nondescript type. Hell, there are junkies in Scotland that look a lot like him... Marvel has a similar thing with Bruce Banner - unkempt clothes, baseball cap, "just one of those faces" and no-one looks twice...
It was definitely 501st armor. But, doesn’t mean he was ever in the presence of either Anakin or Obi-Wan. And it seems by the end of the first year (based on dialog in Bad Batch episode with Gregor), most clones knew about the chip and Rex was kinda on a mission to make sure all clones removed their chips.
Anakin lead the 501st as it's general until he became Vader, so not sure it'd be possible for a clone not to have been in his presence? My money is it's Rex, but we don't get to see if he's been unchipped... But yeah, he's on a mission during BB to emancipate the others when he can. I think knowledge of the chips is still limited to post op clones. Howser never mentions it when he mutinies. Gregor would've been on his own when order 66 came down with no Jedi to attack and his wife to explain whatever effect it did have... at first I actually thought it was Howzer, as the colour seemed close, but the pattern differed. Anyways, I expect that at some point Rex will reveal the chips to Howzer and his fellow refusers and involve them in the earliest part of the rebellion. (S2 looks to be a few years forward of where we left off).
Today's episode. Yeah, they gave us a lot of goodies we knew were coming and added in teases for a few more. And a tease from a tease that would make for a nice twist. Leia continues to own the role and is shockingly well written. Inquisitors were suitably evil and conniving. I'm left to suspect the GI in Rebels is a clone resurrection through whatever Sith hocus pocus which is what sucked worse than death.
I'm not sure Palps has mastered transference of existing minds into clone bodies at this point, or surely he would use it to restore Vader instead of the cybernetics. Unless he's THAT scared of Vader surpassing him?
Grievous is proof Palps used inferior tech on Vader. Withholding clone lungs from him is a tiny leap from there.
well, we know from BB he's been trying (Ep 9), and the GI was a former temple guard so already force trained and council certified... nasty sith healing makes just as much sense (if not more) though.
Haven’t seen today’s episode yet, so I’m just going to address this point without reading the rest of the thread. But, I was in the military and I can count on one hand and one finger the number of times i was in the presence of the general of any unit I was in. And then it was only because I’d had what the military calls a “profile” for medical conditions making a soldier unable to perform active duty requirements. I was waiting for my medical discharge papers to come through and was assigned to temporarily sit in for a general’s personal secretary who was DOD, not military. It was happenstance. Most grunts have never been and will never be in the presence of their unit’s general.
fair... although there's not much of a command heirarchy in CW field engagements it seems, and Anakin is at almost all involving them (or shows up near the end). after General Anakin seems to be Captain Rex and then a few LTs before hitting into NCOs. Notably, Rex is the highest ranking member of the 501st we ever meet. According to Wookiepedia, the standard size of a battalion was four companies of 200. So 800 clones (let's say 1000 given combat attrition) that go everywhere with Anakin in a ship the size of a middle school. I think it's more like Washington or Isaac Brock's men having at least been in their presence, or that scene in The Pacific where they all knew Chesty
That was one tense episode, Ewan McGregor is killing it. He sold it when he feels Vader's presence and the look on his face when he see him gave me chills. James Earl Jones also sounded fantastic as Vader. I can't wait to see the final confrontation. ETA: It was fun seeing that Storm trooper getting sliced in half.
So we know that Obi-Wan cannot die, or get beyond slightly fucked up by Vader. We know Leia can't have anything happen to her either. Still, I felt chills when Vader and Obi-Wan faced off against each other. And when Obi-Wan sensed Vader you could see the fear and shock in his face. Great acting by Ewan McGregor. Even knowing that Obi-Wan can't really have anything happen to him, when Vader decided to toast him a bit, it was still a tense scene. And Obi-Wan has gotten weak, Vader practically handed him his ass when they were facing off against each other. Such a change from their last confrontation where they were pretty much every matched. Felt kind of bad for the Storm Trooper that got shot then cut in half landing on the laser gate.
And was it just me, or did this episode not have The Imperial March\Vader Theme not play when Vader appeared?
There were a couple of times they alluded to it with music that almost seemed like a knockoff of it. Think they're building up to it.
Doesn’t this encounter directly contradict their conversation in ANH? Or maybe this is a Rocky III situation. Obi Wan gets his ass beat the first time but then he levels up and defeats Vader in a second matchup… probably in the very last episode. So I guess it could still work. We will see.
Shit is this out already? I haven't even finished the third season of The Mandalorian, I didn't know they already made a fourth season.
Apart from the verbal mention of one particular surviving Jedi, DenOfGeek has also translated the Aurabesh symbols from the safe house and shown that quite a few are shout-outs to the EU novels, in particular Valin Halcyon - the actual name of the Padawan Hal Horn before he was adopted by a family friend, who in the novels goes on to father detective-turned-Jedi Corran Horn.
Great episode, only one criticism. Other than that though this has been spot on, and I'm loving watching Obi-Wan's journey. Between this, Strange New Worlds, and Stranger Things this is one of the best summers of TV in years.
Such high stakes. I thought Obi Wan was gonna get killed for sure! And Leia got captured! OMG? I hope they don't kill a little kid!
