Welp, it’s certainly not living up to my expectations

The storytelling and cinematography is choppy and uneven, the direction of this this so far isn’t very good. Certainly not up to the standards set by the previous Star Wars live action series. It’s not as polished, this is poorly shot and put together.

Starting to wish that Jon Favreau was behind this

Leia is super annoying but i get that she’s an important component of the story, hard to imagine anything else would get Kenobi off of Tattooine

The “hiding the kid in the trench coat” in the last episode was utterly preposterous, cringeworthy

Ewan MacGregor is basically carrying the whole show, he’s absolutely fantastic

I'm caught up and agree that it's both underwhelming and unnecessary.

I can't remember which thread it was in (maybe The Book of Boba Fett?) but I posted a while back that the smartest thing Disney could do would be to hand the reins over to Favreau for all things Star Wars.

It's long been obvious that Star Wars is not a deep well, despite the potential. They keep going back to the same themes and characters that were set up in the OT.

Rogue One - did we need a story about stealing the plans to the Death Star? Did it add anything? Is the movie even rewatchable? Spoiler alert - everyone dies. If you watching just to see a Vader cameo then we're in trouble.

Solo - How did Han Solo get his last name? His ship? His furry buddy? Who cares?

Boba Fett - What a disaster of a show. Four episodes on Boba Fett's flashbacks and then two Mandalorian advertisements and then it ends. This is the character everyone's been salivating over since ESB? Well, you got him fanboys.

Obi Wan - this one was almost a movie too. Will Obi Wan survive his confrontation with Vader? What about little Leia? We know he just ends up living in a mud hut on Tattooine looking over Luke after this...which, holy shit, is exactly where his character started in the series. So if you're looking for character growth you won't get it! (Or is everyone just watching for a potential Liam Neeson cameo?)

The entire ST was a giant abortion. Ep. 7 was just Ep. 4. Ep. 8 sought out only to subvert expectations (and poorly at that) only for Ep. 9 to ignore Ep. 8, eviscerate the purpose of the OT and bring back the emperor as the big bad. Wow. Such creativity.

Why do you guys watch something you know beforehand you won’t like? Just a suggestion, but if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. There’s no need for you to post to the rest of us that you don’t like it. We don’t care if you don’t like it.

Rogue One was a decent little bit of foundation fill that worked as a movie... but yeah, the rest of it is cash grab.

I mean, the only hurdle for Obiwan is to do more than have middle aged dude stalks adolescent boy in the isolation of the Sahara. It's been fun, but it either needs to be a little shorter or a lot longer-like cover the next five years until Rebels story takes over or go home.

I came in expecting little, so everything I can find to like is rewarding.

I'm also a sucker for how an interwoven universe can stitch together. I'm glad there's going to be an S2 because I want Hondo to show up. I pretty much demand Ventress with Quinlan Vos. Let him know Ahsoka is okay and alive and is Fulcrum...

Like the back of the Bayoux tapestry. Connect those threads for me is as important as the story itself.

As long as ‘this’ story is entertaining, it doesn’t matter, to me, how in interacts with other stories in the same universe. If they ‘stitch’ together, great! If not, oh well, this story was entertaining.

I agree mostly with what you're saying, except for Rogue One, which was a fantastic addition to the SW universe.

Solo was just about the most unnecessary film not only in the SW universe but in movie history, period.

Boba Fett and Obi-Wan should be decent in the right hands, but they fucked it all up.

Not sure if you've ever heard about Duel of the Fates (the original sequel to The Last Jedi, which I thought was decent) but if they had gone that route with Episode IX, I think the sequel trilogy wouldn't have been quite the disappointment it was.

Way back in the day, I said that I didn't really think that this was going to work. Because, really, for it to match up with the OT, Obi-Wan was just basically going to have to hang out on Tatooine and not really do anything. Though now that I think about it, there is a way they could have made it work, but it would really throw people for a loop. Because it would be utterly unlike anything in any SF/fantasy franchise done to date (though many of them had kinda done something similar, in book form). Make it like Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown, with Obi-Wan going around to different places on Tatooine (and perhaps another planet or two) and giving us a tour of what things were like.

When I complain about something that took a village full of people and millions of dollars to create, it implies that I'm better than all of them, and anyone who likes it, combined.

As someone who is deeply, deeply insecure, I must point out when I'm better than others at every available opportunity, both to distract people from my own flaws, and to distract myself so I don't just cry all the time. It totally works and no one realizes how terrible I actually am.

Of course it's just a matter of taste, but yeah... Star Wars hasn't been great since ROTJ. Star Trek is vastly better, IMHO.

I like good Star Wars films. They don't have to be uber meaningful, they just have to tell a decent story and entertain me.

The first three were grand. The prequels were a bit disappointing, though ROTS was pretty good ending. And an interesting thing happened, between the films and the animated series another generation grew up loving Star Wars and those characters in particular.

Rogue One was fantastic. I like Han Solo just fine, all I wanted was to see more of that character and his back story and it did that with elan.

The last 3 movies were pretty bad. The first one was fine, though derivative as all hell. It set up a lot of interesting questions. The second one said fuck that, none of those questions were interesting, and you were stupid for thinking they were. The last one tried to recover but had too much work to do considering Rian Johnson decided to tell everyone to fuck off in the middle.

But the Mandalorian was great, Boba Fett was oh hey, this should have been about the Mandalorian, and while ep 4 of Obi Won was a bit flat I really enjoyed the first 3 and love how they are tying Princess Leia and Ben together.

There's still a place for the popcorn movie, and now, the nostalgia miniseries.

    That was SAVAGE.

I pretty much agree with everything @Demiurge said with the exception of The Mandolorian being "great." It's good, entertaining and IMHO, the best thing Disney has done with Star Wars except Rouge One, but I wouldn't characterize it as "great." If that show ended today, I don't think anyone will be talking about it in 10-15 years time.

It was better than the prequels (which doesn't say much) but it was seriously flawed. As I said in my other post upthread, I think it would have been at least salvageable had they gone with Duel of the Fates as Episode IX instead of Rise of Skywalker.

Either way, the fanboys would have freaked. But the fanboys can suck my dick.

The flashbacks we're getting are exactly the backstory we imagined when Obi told us in ANH and ROTJ.

Oh boy, @We Are Borg is going to hate this episode. I thought this episode was really good. This was the type of scene we should have seen in Attack of the Clones to set up Anakin's arrogance and lack of patience rather than what we ended up with. This felt like a Clone Wars/Rebels episode because in both shows there's always a lesson to be learned. I liked that Obiwan's other skills shined in this episode. His lightsaber isn't his only weapon. I thought Vader was going to let some heads roll, I'm surprised he showed restraint. I really do hope we get one more duel between Vader and Obiwan before this is over and a good one, not Obiwan running away. Obviously he'll lose or be forced to retreat, but I'd like to see a decent duel. We came really close to hearing the Imperial March. I'm guessing they're saving that for next week. There was also a little bit of prequel music as well. I wonder if we'll see Palpatine next week, I think they have one more surprise for next week.
