I might be misremembering but it isn't merely that Han shoots first but that he's the only one who shoots at all.
you asked a question based on a rumour. hell of a stretch to you being "right"... this is a nothing burger to me though. I mean, it's not like we didn't get sent off to see star wars every second fuckin' weekend for two years so the parents could get some personal time.
Let's see what Lucas has to say about it Well, there ya have it, folks! George Lucas is wearing a t-shirt that says, "Han shot first." I think we can safely say that it is correct to use the phrase "Han shot first," if the writer and director of the OG Star Wars movie has that on a shirt.
I have my doubts this is going to be the film that purists are looking for. I saw a documentary once on all the different versions and it's crazy. They were tweaking the film before Empire even released, and I don't just mean the opening crawl. I wouldn't be surprised if the film Disney thinks it has isn't even the 1977 cut. I expect them to remove the "New Hope" from a 1979 cut and pat themselves on the back like "good job, team! No one will notice!" And good luck to the fans. I'm not sure seeing all the strings on the TIE Fighters is going to be as rewarding as you hoped.
My ideal would be the 1977 original, NO additional scenes, NO stupid enhancements, but with the Special Edition VFX upgrades. None of the changes or added content were worthwhile, and some of it was downright offensive (Greedo shooting first, Solo walking on Jabba's tail). Just fix the effects so it looks like a modern film. That's it. (That goes for ESB and ROTJ, too.)
