Awesome! I'll only have to drive about an hour to see it. Hopefully the eclipse will occur right before I'm at the top of the temple about to be sacrificed to the gods but the priests realize the gods have had enough blood so they spare me. It's about time I catch a break!

Awesome, I'm also about an hour away too. Fuck me... I may reserve a hotel room in the area and go up there for the weekend.

Funny, that tune was going through my head before watching the video.

This has to be one of the creepiest made in the 80s.

That could be fun, to watch the eclipse, not sharing a room.

If i can get off work my wife and I may drive over to see it.

We've never seen a total solar eclipse before. I remember three partials.

pick a city, Columbia could be good. I was thinking if I wanted to spend the weekend somewhere Nashville might be a good option.

I was looking into some areas, essentially it would only be an overnight trip. I was looking at areas that would be in the total eclipse zone, but not the tourist areas and with some parks nearby. I figured those areas would be less crowded and easily accessible.

Maybe Anderson then. Highway 76 exit on I85. link

from the grayed-out prices and one spot check it looks like 8/20 is selling out

Does this look seedy enough for our nefarious purposes? I'm ready to pull the trigger.

What works for you, would work for me. That looks okay to me if you really want to have a meet up, what about @oldfella1962? I think he'd be fun to have there too.

Ok, I booked us a room at the Rodeway Inn aug 20 for one night. I narrowly escaped matrimonial hell by letting her think she was part of the decision and not an afterthought. Think about this kids, before you go and get hitched.

(Of course I'll have some 'splainin' to do if Ed and OF show up.)

Definitely drive out Sunday and stay at a cheap motel. It's the American way.

Anderson is only 2.5 hour drive from here but I wouldn't risk leaving Monday morning (Atlanta!!!$##%) for a 2:30PM (EDT) event.

Hell, I get a pretty decent view from my own yard. The optimal path is skewing south and west of STL, but not by too much. And I just happen to live 20-something miles Southwest of STL!

Edit: So the path is wider than I'd guessed, looking at the small map. To hit the maximum totality line, I'll have to drive to St. Clair, which is roughly an hour away down I-44. That's the closest spot, at least. Still not to shabby!

Totally worth it. How often are you going to be able to see something like this? I never thought I'd ever get the chance. Of course, knowing my luck, it'll be raining buckets that day.

Totally worth even a longer drive. Really a once in a lifetime spectacle, majestic and humbling. Saw the one over Central Europe in 1999 - and by pure coincidence I was in one of the few spots without a thick cloud layer :techman:
