So the solution was to hit him with a laundry list of fines and ultimately leave him homeless?

This is just an extension of the "homeowners association" mentality that enables sad little busybody assbags to meddle in each others' business under the pretense of "property values."
    :ualbert:

After 18 years of that shit, I can almost understand the shooting spree. I think it would've ended with a standoff at my property, though. No ambiguity about who is a valid target when they seek you out to take physical action.

Meh, if you can't or won't maintain your property then it effects the value of everyone else's property so, yes, it is in everyone's interest to require owners to maintain their properties.

In any event given Albert's rage problems and his delusional political ideology I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on a shooting rampage at some point in his life.

So, today, I'm allowed to assume everyone is capable of working for a livng. Any other day, I'm a monster for refusing to take everyone's uniquely tragic situation into account.

Remember...the compassion only lasts until the victim irritates them in some way.

Sokar was a monster for not wanting to smell a homeless woman's stank while trying to eat at a cafe...but if the poor person's yard smells and is icky and it effect's a liberal's property values....hang 'em out to dry!!

And they don't even see their own hypocrisies!

I'm sure someone will be along to make up some justifications of why the situations are so different and there is no hypocrisy in 5...4...3...2...

It's sad the way some can only see things through ideological blinders. Sounds like this guy wasn't well served by the system, but the solution isn't that we allow property owners to flagrantly break hhealth and zoning codes. If he couldn't manage due to a disability, the problem is that there was no safety net. Of course, there is, so he probably is just a dipshit.

He claims in the article that his was not a unique property in the neighborhood when he moved there, that the classy folks showed up later. That makes a difference.

And of course he can prove this. That's why he didn't find it necessary to kill three people to make his point.

    Oh, I would.

I also would have a problem with someone deeply unhygenic lurking in a place of eating for hours and hours on end and wouldn't fault someone for complaining about that, too.

[IMG]He's running electricity, presumably cooking in that? Pennsylvania, so he's running heat half the year.

    Overhanging trees?

He could just ride his bike on the sidewalk with an active flamethrower, I suppose.

Still, if he has hydro, then at one point the municipality had access to a plan drawing of his home. The only valid complaint against him might be the junk affecting others' property value. In which case I'm not entirely against him being compelled to clean it up.

Going on a shooting spree is a bit of an over reaction on his part. I'd be more inclined to appeal them billing me after the forced clean up.

    actaully not entirely.

my folks had a beef with the neighbour's recreational usage. namely, they'd built within 100' of the shoreline. This posed a contamination hazard to a shallow water lake.

your right to shit in the drinking water ends at the effective distance from the property line.

Fuck, am I loving this thread.

did you seriously just tell us that gentrification efforts should respect the lifestyles of those already living in an area? That long term residents' desires take precedence?

wanna sign the petition against wal-mart in my 'hood? I'll post a link.

Right, you're all for property rights until it clashes with your ideals. Never mind that this guy is creating a negative externality on his neighbors.

Avoiding a particular book store (that you don't own) is a hell of a lot easier than breaking your mortgage and selling your home. And then if you have kids...

Yes, they absolutely do. I'm reminded of people who buy property next to a small airfield because the land is cheap, then once their houses are built start agitating to close the airport.

so you can see why I'm bothered by a 18000 sq ft shopping centre being built between two low density urban neighbourhoods here?

    Santa Ana Heights disagrees!
