Hey, that's pretty good, you're gonna go with John Quincy Adams did it and Nixon wrote books? Wows. Nobody you could find during your lifetime, eh, to help bolster your point that playing in politics is righteous and normal for an ex Prez even though it was beneath even an Obama-level-of-bad Carter nearly forty friggin years ago?

It is amazing how blame Obama works on the cucks despite no evidence and clearly conflicting with reality. They would literally believe Obama is actually physically litterally Hitler if trump told them.

James Clapper. The guy who lied to Congress and should have been charged with perjury. And because he wasn't put up for the job by Obama that makes him a Trump supporter? Even though the Bush family hates Trump? Whatever.

Also Bailey to answer your question:

    Jan 19, 2017

"Mr. Manafort is among at least three Trump campaign advisers whose possible links to Russia are under scrutiny. Two others are Carter Page, a businessman and former foreign policy adviser to the campaign, and Roger Stone, a longtime Republican operative.

The F.B.I. is leading the investigations, aided by the National Security Agency, the C.I.A. and the Treasury Department’s financial crimes unit. The investigators have accelerated their efforts in recent weeks but have found no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing, the officials said. One official said intelligence reports based on some of the wiretapped communications had been provided to the White House."

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/us/politics/trump-russia-associates-investigation.html?_r=1

    Jan 11, 2017

"The Guardian has learned that the FBI applied for a warrant from the foreign intelligence surveillance (Fisa) court over the summer in order to monitor four members of the Trump team suspected of irregular contacts with Russian officials. The Fisa court turned down the application asking FBI counter-intelligence investigators to narrow its focus. According to one report, the FBI was finally granted a warrant in October, but that has not been confirmed, and it is not clear whether any warrant led to a full investigation."

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...-mccain-alleging-secret-trump-russia-contacts

So people keep saying there wasn't a wiretap but old news stories keep bringing up wiretaps.

The people playing this game are playing word games.

It's exactly like when Obama spokesman said, "A cardinal rule of the Obama Administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false."

Everyone took this to mean Obama was saying there was no wiretaps but than someone realized something and had to make sure people understood this:

So they aren't saying there were no wiretaps. Only that Obama didn't personally order it.

But it was his justice department and homeland security that did.

If James Clapper is telling the truth that there was no wiretaps, NEVER, in his words then doesn't that mean that all the leaks and media stories based on the leaks are 100% Fake News?

Two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed to Heat Street that the FBI sought, and was granted, a FISA court warrant in October, giving counter-intelligence permission to examine the activities of ‘U.S. persons’ in Donald Trump’s campaign with ties to Russia.

    JAN. 12, 2017

WASHINGTON — In its final days, the Obama administration has expanded the power of the National Security Agency to share globally intercepted personal communications with the government’s 16 other intelligence agencies before applying privacy protections.

The new rules significantly relax longstanding limits on what the N.S.A. may do with the information gathered by its most powerful surveillance operations, which are largely unregulated by American wiretapping laws. These include collecting satellite transmissions, phone calls and emails that cross network switches abroad, and messages between people abroad that cross domestic network switches.

    MARCH 1, 2017

In the Obama administration’s last days, some White House officials scrambled to spread information about Russian efforts to undermine the presidential election — and about possible contacts between associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump and Russians — across the government. Former American officials say they had two aims: to ensure that such meddling isn’t duplicated in future American or European elections, and to leave a clear trail of intelligence for government investigators.

Evan McMullen might be a good place to start looking. Someone from another country, Canada, Britain, Australia, Iceland, the Swiss even, might get the best results but I'm guessing there's no legal framework for that in the U.S. - I've never heard it even discussed.

being term-limited out of office is not a typical definition of being "ditched"

And none of that really addressed my question but then, there's not really likely to be a rational answer to that.

I'ma guess the Congressional Republicans are about to grossly overplay their hand with trying to get every crazy idea they ever had passed BUT it's also possible that they know most of these will fail but figure with a "Pickett's Charge" they can slip some of the middling stupid ones through while folks are in an uproar over the truly insane ones.

Again, not seeing a problem here.

If the Russians did indeed influence the election (pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point) then all the actions taken by the Obama administration appear to be appropriate -- particularly if there were concerns the new administration had a high likelihood of destroying the evidence of said interference.

He put his full weight and popularity and prestige, such as it is, behind a victory for Hillary. People said fuck off. Without the abominably bad Obamacare, Trump would not have been elected.

Fuck yeah we ditched him. And good thing, too. ; )

Nothing happened, just thought we'd be rid of him and he'd go away with class, not operate from behind the scenes. Hopefully he goes public, or writes a book (like OB's friend Nixon, 'no more vietnams', that's an honorable ex-prez way of trying to influence policy).

The point of posting these links was only to point out that the media itself was reporting wiretaps of the campaign whereas some in this thread and in the media have taken the there were no wiretaps of the campaign line.

    Fair enough.

But the general rule of thumb when conducting surveillance is that you don't actually admit you're conducting surveillance... until you're before a court of law presenting it as evidence.

So hopefully the Trump administration will get its day in court soon. :diacanu:

They also figure with everyone hyperfocused on Der Drumpfenführer's dog&pony show no one will notice. That's why they're letting him run amok. Pence is the one they really wanted, but he's got the charisma of a wet rag. However, when Donny finally implodes they'll have their man in place.

Of course. Pence is not ideal given his stance on... things but he's a loyal conservative party soldier. Also he's probably sane.

Which is why I do think some GOPers are totally helping out with all the leaks and chaos. It's either now or after a 2018 win. The latter is questionable given Trump's conduct so it has to be now.

Oh for fucks sake, you can't really be this stupid can you?!?!

It is entirely plausible to a) Not have wiretapped the campaign and b) Have tapes pointing to campaign folks talking to the Russians. All that it would require was that you be taping the Russians and they talk to campaign officials OR talk to other people about their conversations with campaign officials.

The news has reported several times that a FISA warrant was asked for and denied. A second FISA warrant was asked for and granted.

You do not need a FISA warrant to listen in on the Russians.

So explain to us whose lying: The media whose been reporting that the Obama administration had a FISA warrant issued or the Obama people who now say there was no FISA warant.

You can't have it both ways.

    False.

A FISA warrant is required if there is a 'substantial likelihood' that the communications will involve a 'U.S. Person'.

If you are listening in on Russian agents in the U.S. or targeting U.S. assets then you'll need a FISA warrant.
