http://news.yahoo.com/blacks-protest-confederate-flags-ga-cemetery-011706787.html One group thinks the flags are racist, and the other thinks it's honoring their heritage. So who is right?
The Confederate flags were there first......find another public cemetary, ignore the flags at this cemetary, or build/buy your own cemetary. Or the fourth option, go all "flash mob" and start attacking random whites...that seems to be catching on quite well!
In my opinion both are right. It does honor the heritage of one group, but the pro flag group should be honest enough to admit that the heritage they want to honor treated other human beings as property. At the same time the anti flag group should recognize that not a person alive today owned a slave or even seriously considers it a good thing and that honoring the Confederate flag in no way implies support or sympathy for the policies of the nation that it flew over.
Do you think Jesse would use a Ginsu Knife when he threatened to cut off Obama's balls a few years ago? I'm thinking an old school rusty switchblade.
Doesn't matter who is "right," and personal offense is irrelevant. It only matters who pays the bills for that property. If the answer to that is "the taxpayers," then the choices are either total inclusion or total exclusion.
You know what? You're right. I am offended. I'm gonna go to loot the ever-loving shit out of the nearest Best Buy. Needs me a new flat screen and some games. You know, to redistribute the wealth. It's the conservatives, or something. Whatevah.
Well, let's see: no slave ship ever sailed under a Confederate flag, 5 Union states still had slavery, the first slave for life at the Jamestown Colony was a black man owned by another black man, blacks fought for the Confederacy, US Colored troops were paid less than white soldiers but black Confederates received equal pay, and Sherman's "Bummers" raped, looted, and pillaged blacks worse than they did the whites. Yeah, I see his point.
You won! Get over it! We're not the ones trying to take flags down. In fact, among all the SCV members I know, and that's quite a few, we'll fight you for taking a US flag down faster than we'll fight you for taking a Confederate flag down.
I don't see how one claim is more legitimate than the other. Abraham Lincoln was certainly the greatest President in the history of America IMHO.
Yes. Yes they are. The Klan never flew a Confederate flag until the 1950's and 60's. They don't speak for me or my Confederate ancestors.
I have no problem with the confederate flag. The communist flag on the other hand represents pure evil.
The men who fought under that flag did so for a set of ideals. Yes, a small part of those ideals involved slavery. However, a larger part involved a philosophy of governing that they were willing to fight and die for. Whether those ideals were right or wrong doesn't change the simple fact: They fought well and they died honorably while under that flag. Do you really want to take that away from them?
I'd say that whether the ideals were right or wrong has a great bearing on whether they in fact "died honorably". It is not an honorable thing to die for the retention of slavery.
