Apparently, he was interested in the role. There's video of him and Lucas talking about it, but all the copies seem to have been deleted from YT.
Who is the winner of the Star Trek "fat fuck" award? I have a couple of nominees: Scotty Kirk Riker Sisko O'Brien Tain Tilly
Also, in the malfunctioning holodeck simulation of Deadwood, Worf can power a rudimentary forcefield with his freaking communicator, on top of which the Federation's battery tech is good enough that a hand weapon the size of a 1990s car phone is capable of vaporizing solid rock, and they can't figure out a way to give their away teams personal forcefield tech?
Okay, so I'm poking around on YouTube, looking for a particular clip from 2001, can't find it, so I'm like "Fuck it, I'll just watch some random shit on YouTube." Anyways, it coughs up a 4K clip from TMP, showing the intro bit where the Klingons go after V'Ger. I'm really curious because it looks like someone has AI'd Worf as one of the Klingons. So I watch the clip. One of the first things that I realize is whomever did the upscaling did a really shitty job. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself. And while you're at it, pay particular attention to this shot: That's the back of the ol' Klingon battlecruiser there. And it probably wouldn't have hit me if I hadn't just been poking around, trying to find some 2001 clips, but take a gander at this: Now, I'm not saying that a 2001 model was used to make the back of the Klingon ship (I mean, that model's for sale now, I don't know if one was available for sale prior to TMP being made), but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.
Best I can tell the first Aries 1B Moon Ferry kit was released in 1989. Being a model builder for many years, I remember it being a pretty big deal at the time.
In retrospect, I can't decide if the Trill were a great piece of nonbinary representation (since Jadzia and Ezri Dax had no problem identifying with all of the Dax symbiont's past hosts), or extremely deterministic and gender-essentialist since the joined being's identity always matched whatever the host had down below.
