The civil war within the party between the traditional Libertarians and the Mises Caucus (Trumpist) which has taken over the LNC has resulted in the New Mexico LP going independent.

    Full letter here.

I appreciate the nod to the DoI in listing their grievances.

Skippy was posting the LPNH (also taken over by Mises) meme making fun of the death of McCain and his daughter’s grieving just the other day so I assume he only thinks good riddance.

For more info a post from last month:

"People with pronouns in their Twitter bios aren’t welcome anymore, but, evidently, white nationalists and Holocaust deniers are." The dreadful legacy of a movement brought low by welcoming right-wingers as long as they were sufficiently anti-left.

I asked him if he was Mises Caucus a few weeks ago and he didn't respond. :chris:

I think we know the answer to that.

Is the Mises Caucus a branch of libertarianism that wants to fuck even younger minors? (As opposed to the mainstream "technically it's ephebophilia" libertarians)

‘Anti-woke’ Trumptards took over the LP National Committee, welcomed in White Nationalists and everyone too right wing for the Republican Party, refused to seat any state delegations that didn’t sign on (so couldn’t be challenged at their National Convention) and now a civil war is happening where state affiliates not down with the turn are either disaffiliating from the National Party or just dissolving themselves completely.

It’s a shame the ballot access goes with them. If they’re going to run bigots and fascists that compete with Trumpublicans, I want them to have an easier time of it.

I should mention again, for the benefit of the slow, that I am registered independent. I am not a D, nor an R, nor an L, nor anything else. Issue and candidate, not party.

Yes, yes. Fencepost up the arse, both sides are equal, unlimited rice pudding, etcetera, etcetera.

Only those dies are awfully weighted to make "both" sides equal. Five sides are GOP and 1 is Dem.

As has been explained to you, multiple times, using short sentences and small words.

Candidate Not Party makes a cute bumper sticker but is an extremely (to the point of having to be intentional at this point) shallow understanding of how our electoral and political systems actual work.

In our current system a ‘Candidate’ for a legislative body might agree with you 100% of the time but if they choose to caucus with a party that will never let any of those issues come up for a vote (See the Republicans’ Child Rapist Rule that every incoming Speaker must pledge to follow) then their positions don’t actually matter. All that matters at that point is Party.

The only benefit is to you. You get hold yourself above the fray. You never compromised. You never had to think about the greater good. Never had to go with the lesser evil. All that dirty work is for others to do to save this country. You are above all that.

It has become obvious that you actually care much more about your personal self image than you do this country, which is sad.

Didn't Lanzman vote for Obama because "the lesson must be learned?"

From the Idaho Press (paywalled) Sept 14...

BOISE — A rift in the Idaho Libertarian Party has cost the party its best-known Idaho candidate, 1st Congressional District hopeful Joe Evans, who withdrew in late August and has now been replaced by a first-time candidate from Post Falls.

Evans was the party’s top vote-getter in the 2020 election, receiving 16,453 votes, or 3.6%, in a three-way race for the same post, which was won by current GOP Congressman Russ Fulcher. Evans actually got more votes in Idaho that year than the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee, Jo Jorgensen, who received 16,404 votes or 1.9%.

The Libertarian Party counts 11,081 registered Libertarians in Idaho, according to August figures from the Idaho Secretary of State’s office; that’s 1.1% of Idaho’s registered voters.

“There was an ideological break between the previous board of the Libertarian Party of Idaho and the one that’s currently in charge,” Evans told the Idaho Press. “And unfortunately, because of the size of the Libertarian Party in Idaho, a break between a significant candidate and the board is simply unsustainable.”

He said he didn’t want to campaign “while they were coming in behind me and telling everybody that libertarianism stood for something else. So it wasn’t worth my time to spend the next 60 days fighting over the issue.”

he rift echoes similar splits that have happened in a half-dozen other states, as the Mises Caucus took over the national party, cementing its victory at this year’s national convention.

...the Mises Caucus, which is variously described as the “paleo-libertarian” or “Ron Paul wing” of the Libertarian Party, or by Paul himself in 2021 as the “libertarian wing of the Libertarian Party.” Formed in 2017, it opposed the more pragmatic positions taken by 2018 Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson, and opposes moves toward progressivism.

“They’re social conservatives,” Evans said, though others in the party dispute that label. “Some of the other members were very much part of the pro-life portion of the party, and they very much cheered the overturning of Roe v. Wade. They believe strongly in … the state being able to enforce anti-abortion restrictions.” Evans, who supports abortion rights, said that was the dividing line for him as a Libertarian.

The national Libertarian Party’s platform included a plank advocating leaving decisions about abortion up to the individual until this year; it was removed at the party convention in May, leaving the platform silent on the issue.

It’s interesting to look at this from a geopolitical perspective. We know that Putin spent hundreds of millions supporting both the far left and far right. His puppets are now in control of the two largest 3rd parties in the nation.

What does that mean long term? Where do they go from here?

Lot of wish casting here but does that give the Yang Gang a shot? Will we be lucky enough to get a 3rd party focused on electoral reform which COULD actually make a difference other than as an occasional spoiler.
