Does anyone know why he died? Was it heart failure? 43 is way too young to go.

I'm 48, and I still can't imagine going so soon.

This is really sad news. He was one of the best. I'm really going to miss him. :(

Good-bye, Wheels. I wish I had had the opportunity to know you better. :salute:

My little brother was 43 when he died, and I haven't completely gotten over it yet, even though it's been quite a few years. :(

They say he went into the hospital last week and it was the pneumonia that got him.

I don't know much about his health condition, but I believe he mentioned that he was confined to a wheelchair... Hence the name "Wheels."

Yes, he was seriously disabled. If I recall correctly he even had to use special input devices just to use a computer.

But it seemed like he was always in a decent mood, and often excited about stuff like hockey and so forth. I would never have gotten the impression there was anything wrong with him at all if I hadn't been told.

I don't think dkehler would mind me saying this in his own Wordforge memorial thread, but why don't you ask him yourself? :ramen: :ghost:

    Horrible news.

And so sudden, at least for those of us not FB friends. Seems just a fee days ago he was arguing how great a thing life was, even if you sick or handicapped (want to go find that post now).

Oh, and some randomness, just last night I found out someone was from Winnipeg, and I said 'Sweet Guinea Pig O'Winnipeg.' That is not some secret Winnipegian phrase. It will just get you looked at weird.

We all posted our poetry at www.poetry.com. He was one of the best, I've read. He wasn't there very long, just as he was on Earth very long.

    I offer these words
    With a black veil
    We have crossed swords
    And now it all fails

    He's been laid to rest
    His soul will live on
    He was among the best
    But fate cut him down

    Memorials can not say
    What the heart beats
    But they mark the day
    He sailed the heavenly fleet

Yeah, I've had a respiratory issue for months now, it's worrisome considering the environment. They wont do a thing about it, it's pervasive in every building and would cost them a fortune to take care of. :brood:

Just found out on Facebook. So sad. he went into the hospital on Tuesday.

Its a funny feeling to hear of the death of a friend you know but never met. He was a long time member here and will be missed.

I just got into the office and therefore just saw this! So very, very sad.

dkehler is one of "the good guys." Right up there with Chuck and Asyncritus.

A few of the things I appreciated about him:
    1. He exemplified to me the dignity of life in all its various forms.
    2. He was well spoken. When he wrote, it was concise and communicated his point well.
    3. He was friendly, and seemed to understand the modalism that exists here between RR and other rooms.
    4. Quite helpful - he shared with me a lot when I was dealing with pain from typing, and I gleaned a lot of information from him about voice dictation software. I rather appreciated that from him.
    5. He was intelligent. Even when you disagreed with him, he made his arguments well and you could respect his opinion (even if you wanted to burn it to the ground!)

Had no clue that he had any health issues.

Another fellow Canadian touches the sky. That leaves, what a few thousand of us?

I remember giving him the gears when he said Winnipeg would return to the NHL. It seemed every conversation we had about hockey ended up like that. I'm glad he got to see the Jets return to the NHL, and I get the feeling this upcoming season I'll think of him whenever they're in town. I knew he was in a wheelchair but never saw what he looked like until someone posted the picture above. It's kinda surreal communicating with the guy and knowing more than a little about him and then finally getting to see what he looks like after he passes.
