So having been in a drink driving incident and told to go to AA, he's back getting pissed up again. Kids...
I used to pass out in movies from sneaking too much tequila in to my giant sprite. But I was 17 at the time. I'll be at the theater in 3 hours, no tequila!
In the Empire Strikes Back, the X-Wings are all assigned to guard the transports that are escaping Hoth. The Speeders were never meant to win against the AT-ATs. The Rebel troops and pilots were only to buy time for the evacuation. The Rebels knew it was a lost cause, so they had to split.
I just saw it. I'm going to buck the trend in this thread and say I was somewhat underwhelmed. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Don't get me wrong; it was a very good movie and one I'll likely see again in a week so I can fully digest my feelings about it. But I can say that I definitely didn't leave with the schoolboy giddiness I had after the original trilogy or The Force Awakens. I'll also buck the trend and say the CGI characters immediately pulled me out of the film. They simply were not good. Sure, they were the best we've seen to date... but Hollywood is still a long way off from making CGI characters look like real human beings.
I thought it was outstanding. Very well paced. In particular the battle at the climax of the movie. Amazing how they got it to tie in to Star Wars: A New Hope so perfectly. It certainly answers lots of the questions that seem obvious in "A New Hope" like "Where was the Rebel fleet?" and "why did the rebel forces available to attack the Death Star seem so small and weak?" If the future stand alone Star Wars movies are anything like this, the franchise is in good hands.
Perhaps you used the wrong word here but you know the actor who played that character is dead right? The footage you saw was from Star Wars scenes that never made it into Star Wars but were found by the director.
Indeed. The Gold Leader and Red Leader "scenes" are archival footage filmed for Star Wars in 1977 but never used. This has become a fairly common practice as lots of cut material from most movies (and television shows) is left on the cutting room floor but still available. NCIS did the same to show Sasha Alexander's character Kate several seasons after she was shot in the head and killed.
I would love to see Admiral Piet again. I figure the actor is dead but he was great in the Clint Eastwood Cold War thriller "Firefox" Turns out he isn't dead.
Ok. I've had couple days to ruminate. This is the most enjoyable Star Wars film since 1983 for me. Perhaps even since 1980. I need further watching to see if it holds up.
Even if I didn't like the rest of the movie (which I did) then the last 10 seconds of it would've sold me on it anyway. slight spoiler below . . . . . .. . . ... . .. . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . the absolute perfect segway into the original Star Wars is flawlessly done.
I have kind of the same response. I'd place it in the top half of the eight films, but definitely not as good as TFA. My wife walked out saying it was her favorite of all Stars Wars movies. I just can't make that statement, but I did thoroughly enjoy it, and will also see it again.
Decent. Pacing was off for the 2/3's of the movie. Final 15 - 20 minutes were fantastic. Better than the lackluster TFA. 7/10
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first half is a little slow, but because the overall tone is different it worked and paid off. Really liked the casting. Also, I saw it at a recently rebuilt theater with luxury mechanical reclining chairs with foot rests. And the theater now serves alcohol. I somehow managed to drink a beer without passing out in the first 5 minutes. (Seriously @Federal Farmer? )
Well, based on what the director says, I think the franchise is in good hands. According to him, the reshoots were because Disney didn't think the film was dark enough! http://www.theverge.com/2016/12/20/14022380/rogue-one-ending-original-different-gareth-edwards
So it's been three days since I've seen the film and I think it I like it a bit more than my initial reaction. I'd still say that, in my opinion, TFA was the better movie (likely due to simple nostalgia and a long-unsatiated hunger for decent Star Wars.) I'd give Rogue One a solid 8 out of 10. My opinion might change further once I see it again next week.
If they perpetrate the Ultimate Blasphemy and try to remake The Princess Bride, Diego Luna is my #1 choice to play nu-Inigo Montoya.
...but only if there's a scene where he turns to the studio execs and says, "You killed my father, prepare to die!"
