First post that started this whole shit thread. Sides have flipped and people are now arguing from the opposite side in which they started. American politics at its finest.
We didn’t get a shutdown back then. What’s different this time? The Obamacare subsidies expire at the end of the year. People are already being told their premiums will double. Circumstances change.
well he was drunk and dropped one ball almost sobered up but still dropped the other ball.....now he has no balls...tis a shame really
Well, most people are pretty dumb. Then the health insurance premiums double, and "they're gonna cry, cry, cry."
Every day I get a little more depressed with the political illiteracy shown by a significant portion of the population. Hell, I get frustrated with the actual illiteracy of a significant portion of the population, and I don't mean people who have disabilities and can't read, I mean the people who are fully capable and refuse to read, to open their minds, to actually critically think about what is going on around them. Apathy will murder us all, and it will do so using the hands of this administration.
Live updates: Mass firings of federal workers begin as Trump pressures Democrats to end shutdown Firings to total over 4,000, federal budget office says
Beardie guys on Youtube putting on wrestler voices like 8 year old boys have all the wisdom humanity will ever need. I stand by this to the bitter death, and history will never laugh at me.
Trump authorizes troop pay amid government shutdown The president said he would direct Defense Department officials to pay military members on Oct. 15.
Paying the troops is a good thing. Violating the Constitution which clearly states that Congress has the ‘Power of the Purse’ is a bad thing. There are bills in both chambers that would authorize paying the troops. But Congress would have to be called into session and then the elected representative from Arizona would have to be sworn in. She would be the final signature on the Discharge Petition to release the Epstein Files. So the pedo-protectors can’t do that. So Congress will stay in recess (FOR A FIFTH WEEK!) and Trump will defy the Constitution and order the government to pay for what he wants and not a damn thing will happen as consequence. America!
Like it is literally in Article I of the Constitution, Section 7: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/ The President is not a King. He can’t just order money to be spent that the Congress hasn’t authorized. What the fuck are we doing here people?!?!?
I'd say yet one more group having to beg just to eat, but veterans have been in this situation for a long time right along with every stripe of poor person across the country. It's a travesty that so many people suffer while those who are supposed to represent us can ride it out in comfort.
If you actually were a child, at least some of your sexual interests would be justifiable. Anyway, to address the underlying point with a serious comment: July happened after March. July was when the "One Big Beautiful Bill" was passed with a bunch of provisions in it, including the one at issue that would increase health care premiums dramatically. One could argue that this changing condition -- trying to prevent lots of people from having health care become unaffordable or outright losing healthcare -- is serious enough to warrant risking giving Donald Trump more power. There are probably any number of developments since March that one could point to that would suggest the dangers of Trump claiming more power have already materialized and that it's past time to take a stand. Among them: Trump's attempts to send troops to cities and states that don't want them, Trump's blowing up alleged drug dealers without proof, Trump's prosecuting his political enemies on weak charges.
For all of it's faults, including the reliance on an insurance based market system that sees human beings as profit generators, the ACA is absolutely essential for millions of people in this country who would otherwise have nothing. Many Republicans like to complain about it, but if it is removed or defunded or whatever horseshit Trump claims he's going to do is done, there will be a lot of death, and it will be career suicide for any politician who didn't step up and try to block its removal. At least I think it will be, after COVID and 1,000,000+ deaths in the US alone, I wonder if people en masse actually care about such numbers anymore or if they've finally been convinced it's just the cost of doing business in America: "Sorry, Timmy, I know you're dying of blood poisoning, but your insurance isn't covering treatment, and quite frankly we're just not going to inconvenience a few billionaires just to save your life."
3 in 4 blame all major players for shutdown: Poll So.....can we end this farce and pass a clean CR or is this stupidity going into the holidays?
Link to the poll: https://apnorc.org/projects/most-se...-think-there-is-plenty-of-blame-to-go-around/ 58% give Congressional Republicans much of thr blame. 58% give Trump much of the blame. 54% give Congressional Dems much of the blame. Please define what you mean by a Clean CR?
You don't know what is meant by a clean CR? Its the same CR that is needed to fund the government. It's the same CR that has been passed time and again yet Democrats have now decided NOT THIS TIME because they want Obamacare subsidies added or else. Its the CR that Senate Democrats have now voted NO on 10 times since this charade began. They won't even vote yes on funding troops during the shutdown so good luck with the military and veterans vote next November. Stop playing games with government workers checks and pass the CR already.
