The long-term consequences of "Long COVID" (the wide range of new, returning, or worsening physical and/or mental health conditions or diseases that can affect individuals after they experience an acute COVID-19 infection) and the variety of new-onset diseases and conditions that are now being associated with COVID-19 infection, are only just now acknowledged as having the potential to cause a mass disabling of society in the years that follow.
This seems a fitting place to put this. Considering all of the long term disabled people who have been affected or created by COVID, I just hate this so much. Don't get me wrong, I support assisted suicide to an extent, but under a hypercapitalist system where profit is the primary motive of healthcare as it is in the US, it is a dangerous game to play, especially as disabled people are, once again, pushed onto the chopping block and offered a means to get out of these people's hair. At the end of the day, it's cheaper to kill 'em than to heal 'em. Keep in mind as you read this and their noble words: they're giving people a legal means to kill themselves before they'll give them universal healthcare, and that insurance companies will be all too happy to have that box available to check when it comes time to deal with a chronic patient. Capitalism is against suicide. For profit healthcare lives off heroic end-of-life medical treatment. Most medical costs (and profits) are before death. Hospice care is the solution in our society, but there needs to be an alternative.
Capitalism is only against suicide as long as someone can be exploited. If you're disabled and unable to fully contribute to the creation of profit for the owners of this country, they will find ways to squeeze you out through systemic violence. Currently, disease and poverty are doing a bang up job.
So this is interesting because under Trudeau assisted suicide in Canada became more acccesable and promoted than ever before Canada is not a hyper capitalist country, in fact we are quite anti business here, and we have universal health care However there are legitimate tragic stories here of cancer patients that couldn’t get chemotherapy to treat them so decided to go the assisted suicide route So to me and many others here it’s a total failure of the government. They didn’t give their own citizens a fighting chance
Thank you. Yes. I got mine in the adjacent state as NV weren't offering it locally. Hookers yes. Vaccines no.
