Reddit has this, and I'm bringing it here cuz....yeah..

Let's start with the Pink Panther:

    2f5345f3-14d1-4800-b2e6-a9c09ff66115.jpg

A Bugatti, btw. Poor thing, you can hardly recognize it. Why would anyone do this?

    Then, there's this:
    dc082d65-b472-4d00-82a5-de744dea3c13.jpg
That's an original Mini Morris. Or rather two of them that got Tuvix'd into one, eight seater monstrosity. Still a much cooler car than the current Clubman MINI sells.

This one isn't quite so bad, actually. With Benz's X-Class truck on the horizon, we may see Beemer do something like this:

    25ecc724-1532-442f-b324-3ef8ddf70d1c.jpg

    And my favorite WTFery:

Nice thread theme! I have nothing worthwhile to contribute so I'll just add a shameless plug for my fav car auction site, BaT.

My 2nd favorite site: Leno's Garage.

Then there's RoadKill. These guys were cool until they started abusing new cars (too popular I guess: Dodge started sponsoring them). Check some of their older videos. And yeah they do some shitty car mods so I'll stop while I'm relevant.

    oh hell couldn't do it.

Ate Up with Motor is a great site for reading the history of many makes and models.

Then there's Roadside America for planning a trip in your car.

There's a secret group on Facebook called "The Odd Vehicle Society" and those are tame compared to some of the things which have surfaced in that group.

This was one of the more reblogged photos of the entire Shitty Car Mods history on their Tumblr Page. Nothing is right about anything of this, including the fact that there are no seats. Who the fuck would do this?!

And then, there’s this trend based in Britain of all places:
    http://www.velvet-cars.com/galery/

Specifically, I had a picture of a velvet MINI Paceman that has disappeared off my phone, because even Android was so embarrassed for the thing. As if it wasn’t bad enough that it had to live life out as the Star Trek: Voyager of the MINI lineup, it suffered that indignity too. Poor little chap :( I don’t which is worse, the velvet or the comparison to Voyager.

Wish I had a photo - my father had a 1959 Austin Healy Sprite when I was a kid. Restored it from a wreck. It was so tiny (11 feet long!) that he made a giant wind-up key sticking up out of the back deck.

I've seen people do this on Mini Morrises as well. Man, those are teeny tiny cars!

I do not think it was called a Mini Morris but a Morris Mini. Which was itself nothing more than a rebadged Austin Mini. I remember a guy down the block when I was growing up had an original Morris Minor as his hobby car.

The Mini club members use both interchangeably, but you're right. Specifically, there was Austin Mini and Morris Mini-Minor until they both just became Mini under a singular brand in '69. The strikes and turmoil in the British auto industry in the 70s and 80s is a reason why the car design remained virtually unchanged till BMW bought them out and they did the redesign in 2000.

Speaking of Beemer, I saw whatever the fuck this was this morning on my way to work:
    Screenshot_20171018-155944.jpg
Not so bad, right? Z4 in the front.

    It gets worse. :brood:

I hope to God this is a mod and that this wasn't some trash that BMW signed off on that understandably was forgotten by everyone, but it looks way too damn nice.

WHY would anyone buy a BMW hatch?

    BMW clownshoe.

Are Z3 Coupes just now making it to CA? I guess living close to the beemer factory in SC means we see more around here. They were produced from 98 to 02 so maybe you missed these.

    More Clownshoe.

The Z3 hatch looks like an MGB GT.

The reason so few chabges were done for so many years had to do with the Nationalization of British Leyland, it being starved for investment by the government, and the subsequent collapse of the company. Just a textbook case why Nationalizations are horrible ideas.

    Clown shoe is right. Oy.

Given the huge car market in SoCal, I can understand why it got squeezed out here against actual attractive cars. OMG.

Dad had a '64 Ford Econoline van. When it got too crappy for the road, he turned it into a utility flatbed for around the property. This extensive modification was accomplished with a carbide saw in about an hour.

While I am not exactly sure I would chose that particular car style, I love the paint job. I would drive it, but then again I have been told I have the taste of a gaudy who're. I even have an outfit that would go along with it. Ok, I have more than one outfit that would go along with it. Some people like that style.

In reality I would only use such a car for cruising in a city where I would be driving slow. For highway travel I would chose something far less likely to get busted in a speed trap. Such a car would get pulled over for any speed over the limit simply for curiosity and because the cop would know the owner could pay the fine. It is much better to cruise in an inexpensive non descript commuter type car that is well maintained. This way if you accidentally buzz over a hill and see a cop you have little to worry about unless you are really flying. However, if I am going to an event where I am going to pull up to the front of a hotel or something where a lot of people are watching hell yeah I would step out of that pink panther. I would drive that shit to the club, or I should say have my driver drive it to the club because I am not getting a fucking dwi.

I wish I still had a picture of our old paintball tank. We totally A-teamed a jeep Cherokee we got for four hundred dollars. It had a rotating turret, gun ports on the Windows. We could fit a squad of six in it and jump out while the turrets was shooting two angels running off a scuba tank and a power fed box that held three thousand rounds. Basically two electric guns that had to have a special feed system because they shot faster than gravity could feed paintballs. They shot over twenty balls per second individually. They would throw pain like a hose. All the mods were done and designed by our sick scenario team. That thing used to scare the piss out of players, and they loved it.

If I can ever find a picture of it it would belong in this thread of crazy cars.

If you haven't already, you should really check out Mindhunter on Netflix. Set in 1977 and chock full of big old ugly 70s cars in mint condition (the two main characters travel a lot so they get a lot of rental cars).

I always thought those stretched Hummers were dumb as fuck. AM General was the last rump of AMC and when GM bought them they pretty much killed them.

At least Studebaker Transportation Products is still around (STP) but that is it. Even Checker bite the big one in 1982. So much for America's nonbig 3 automakers.

Nope. GM bought the rights to produce the civilian version of the Hummer, and other products with the Hummer brand name. AM General is still going strong. Most of the postal trucks mail carriers drive are built by AM General, and they're bidding on the next generation vehicles.

No such animal. After Studebaker ended car production back in the '60s, they were reduced to a financial services company, which was absorbed by somebody else a few years ago.

Actually, they didn't. They just stopped producing cars and switched to stamping out parts for GM. When they finally went tits up in '08, they were stamping out parts for Escalades. I found it particularly amusing that people who were paying big bucks for those things were getting something made by a company associated with lower class society. And we may see new Checkers on the road next year.

Have you ever heard of a little company called Tesla? They make thousands of cars a year, in the US.
