It would do him some good but I prefer Chicken Tika Massala if I am going Indian. Or at least that is my standby. My local tandoori place does an awesome curried lamb dish though. Just remember to order garlic naan instead of the plain naan.
Chicken Tikka Masala as we know is basically the British equivalent to Tex-Mex or the Mexi-Chinese stuff you've mentioned in Imperial Valley. I think maybe one Indian place out of the five (!) that were closest to my base in Japan carried the stuff. If I do order chicken in an Indian place, I'll usually go for tandoori chicken rather than chicken curry. But I love lamb and that's one of the few cuisines to find it in abundance.
Yeah, it was invented in Scotland in the 1950's by an Indian immigrant. It still tastes good though I know butter chicken is the closest authentic Indian dish.
http://www.punjabitandoor.com @Anna, that is the place for all your local tandoori needs. There used to be a good Desi Chinese place (Chinese-Indian fusion cuisine) in the same strip mall but sadly it is no more.
Curry and vinegar smells make me sick. I had to leave the house when my old roommate made chicken curry and for a day or two afterward I'd feel a tad nauseated.
If so, it runs deep. The curry smell makes me feel sick but the vinegar smell is worse. I don't know how else to explain it besides it feels like I'm actually breathing in urine. My eyes water, my nose starts running, and my throat feels like it's closing up. I don't even eat KFC from the place by my house cause it's a KFC/Long John Silvers and everything that comes out of that place is tainted with that vinegar smell.
Malt vinegar is great on battered and fried fish thought tartar sauce is also an acceptable condiment. This reminds me that my favorite fish and chip place recently went out of business. Five minimum wage increases in four years (with automatic yearly increases from here to eternity) made them decide to shut the place down and move to NC.
Oh and I'm having lamb malayan tonight because fuck 'em some more. All homemade, btw. The biryani was from the Thug Kitchen cookbook (vegan recipes with lots of swearing to make the book fun), dahl and malayan are homebrew, though I had malayan at a curryhouse last Monday so trying to approximate it - tikka spice mix with coconut cream, lamb, onions, garlic and chopped sweet pepper, plus flaked almonds. Later on I'll add pineapple but I don't want the acid "curdling" the coconut.
Last night was ceviche tostadas along with fish and shrimp tacos at Mariscos German's new restaurant in Escondido. The night before that was a smoked tri-tip sandwich with smoked Mac &cheese, and fries at Pete's BBQ in Ramona.
