https://www.mrctv.org/blog/boston-m...s-voting-rights-including-some-illegal-aliens So the latest big progressive push in Boston is to allow legal resident noncitizens to vote in local elections. Originally, this band of criminals also wanted to let illegal aliens vote though they backed off that plot after a public outcry. This is complicated matter as voters only get one ballot and often not just local but often state wide and Federal elections are also listed on that vary same ballot. This is an open invitation for voter fraud especially since no I.D. or proof of local residency will be required so it would simply be an honor system. I was against voter I.D. requirements as I saw them an attempt at voter suppression but once you get noncitizens who cannot legally vote in state or local elections being handed one ballot with more than just local races on it... Well, the plot to enable voter fraud in order to gain partisan advantage becomes very clear. I hope courts strike this plot down if it is passed because the intent is very clear and not good for actual citizens as it seeks to diminish their constitutionally protected rights by watering down their right to vote. It honestly seems this is a civil war among the Democrats in Boston with the far left pushing this as a way to increase votes for the far left. Clearly, as there hasn't been a Republican mayor elected in Boston since 1930 the Republican vote is already meaningless there.
Allowing noncitizens to vote is complete insanity and anyone who advocates it truly does not love and support the United States of America or the very concept of it as a nation. This is simply more of the Democrats wanting to glom more voters on to the roles who depend on the government for their basic (and nonbasic needs, internet anyone?) and as the party of government inevitably the Democrats see that as benefiting them.
Every time Republicans prove what pieces of shit they are Dems step in screaming nonsense proving they cannot be trusted either. No wonder they constantly lose sure thing elections.
I await dumbforge to claim it is some how "racist" to not let noncitizens vote. It is coming... Just you wait... It is coming.
Personally I think it's a horrible idea...but if it's for local elections only, and the people in those localities want to do it, then I'm not going to be one of the ones telling them they can't.
I'm wondering why it's okay for a non-citizen to enlist, fight, and possibly die, but not to vote. Then again, thousands of American's died in Vietnam before they were old enough to vote. @Forbin, at least, should remember that.
Because they CHOSE to join the U.S. military for whatever reasons they considered appropriate for them. This isn't Starship Troopers. They didn't join the military so they would be given the right to vote. If you can't understand this you are being deliberately dense and are simply trolling.
I'm OK with prohibitions on this at a federal level, but states are permitted to set voter criteria for their own local elections...it's the same reason so many states ban felons from voting. If you're OK with the latter, you must be OK with the former. Many states in the early US had suffrage available for non-citizens. Massachusetts has even had suffrage for non-citizen residents in its constitution since 1780: But so much for states' rights, eh?
Fair enough. How do you separate only local ballots from the state and federal races on the exact same ballot? How to do check to see who is cheating and committing voter fraud? Especially if you refuse to check IDs or even varify eligability? An honor system staying in place really does sound like a wink and nod to open voter fraud taking place.
No, it is the foundation of our federal system. The Constitution gives states the right to determine voter criteria in state and local elections.
Yeah, the same local constitution which, like the national constitution, only let white male property owners vote? That one?
"states rights" effectively died when the Supreme Court ruled on the ultimate supremacy of federal law over state law. The Civil War and the aftermath wrote that ruling in blood.
I guess have one ballot for citizens, and a separate ballot for non-citizens. The same way the states do it now?
But that provides no evidence that citizenship was the motive for noncitizens joining the U.S. military. Try again.
You don't even know what "naturalization" means. Next you'll need someone to cut up your food for you.
I did. It provides no evidence that citizenship was the motive for noncitizens joining the U.S. military.
