Starting from a position that openness and member comment on mod actions are good, please convince me that the Shelter Release forum should be locked down.

I'd rather not argue that, I think they should be open for further comment, just hadn't thought of it before. Let's try it, if there's a problem, it should become evident.

For the time being, I've only unlocked the threads that were started since Lanzman gave up the board.

I'll let the five of you hash out whether you want to unlock the Shelter threads that were started when he was paying the bills.

I think that's sensible. I've posted an announcement in the Red Room.

I get a "(You have insufficient privileges to reply here.)" message. Sounds to me like an Admin needs to do some tweakings to the forum settings.

Looks like that was indeed the issue. I believe it is now fixed. Users should not be able to create new threads, but they should be able to post in existing threads.

Okay, wow, that was fast. Thought there was gonna be some back and forth, but I'm cool with letting the problems making themselves evident.

@shootER are you cool with modding it?

Do you want a time limit on letting people comment, or just leave the threads open indefinitely?

Yeah, maybe a week and then close it. I see the borgs thread is generating spam, so it might be worth a gentle reminder that this is not the purpose. I'll post one, but hold off on saying anything about time limits just yet.

The latest responses in that thread are what prompted my question.

I'll release the threads and close them a week or so after the last response(s) unless they degenerate into spam before that.

I do like that shelter releases can be commented on, I don't think that all of them need to be open for discussion. Just the one that generated discussion among the mods. A few days ago I looked back at all the ones that were listed, I didn't read them all or even 1/10 of them. Mainly the ones that had more than 2-3 posts in them, and those were interesting to see what type of discussion was created. Yet many of the released ones, like Poodle's really were nothing more than spamming the report post option, good for a chuckle at Poodle's attempts to mod forums, like the RR which most of his reports were idiotic.

I like the notion of allowing member comments.
At the same time, I think this is a forum where some extra hard assedness in the moderation will be required to remind people where they are.
