Saw it tonight. Visually, it was one of the creepiest things I've ever witnessed in a movie theater. The creepiness begins in earnest within five minutes as soon as they arrived on the island. The atmosphere of the film, both visually and musically, conveys a diverse array of unpleasantness (foreboding dread, paranoia, slight unease, don't-open-that-door style suspense, revolting horror, etc) that never lets up until a few minutes before the credits start rolling. The editing was tight, except for the Leonardo DiCaprio was great as usual. Overall, the plot was great and the dialogue was pretty good. I never once looked at my watch. And while I wouldn't say I enjoyed all of it, I was never bored. I knew there was a twist ending going into it, and I had an idea about what the twist was early into the movie, I dismissed it as unlikely and it caught me slightly off guard when it was revealed. Anyway, it's pretty good.
Good movie. I thought it dragged a bit and I had it figured out long before we got to the end, but it was definitely worth the price of admission.
Yup. I really disliked the twist, partially because it was just so predictable, but the movie's neither a waste of the time nor of the money. It's definitely not Scorsese's best, but it still beats 90% of what hits the theatres.
Like I said earlier. I thought about the twist pretty soon into the movie, but then I thought "Yeah, but how?" didn't think of a good answer at the time, then started trying to come up with some different theories. It makes perfect sense now, though.
My wife saw the twist, but I did not. Regardless, it was a great movie...and very much unlike any other movie he's directed.
