Elon Musk is hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8th. There's already controversy. This might be the best SNL has been in decades.
-First time hosts sometimes bring in their famous friends for easy applause during the monologue. I wonder if Ghislaine Maxwell is available that night? -I wonder if he'll call Bowen Yang a pedophile, or save it for Lorne. -Not having Grimes or Kanye as the musical guest feels like a failure of synergy.
Nope. Go find his appearance as Elon Tusk on Rick and Morty. Dude clearly has the choke sweats worse than Albert Brooks' character in Broadcast News does in this scene.
He's kind of dry and boring when he speaks in the real world, so it might be a good fit for SNL lately.
What's the controversy? That he is going to be unfunny and continue the trend of unfunny hosts? Stop the fucking presses.
And the whole Elon Tusk thing shows exactly how willing he is to make fun of himself. He's no Michael Bolton. He's not even a Natalie Portman.
It bothers me because 1) in my opinion, Elon Musk is overrated and 2) there are tons of people who are more talented and could use the exposure more. I'm excited for Miley Cyrus, though. Maybe Musk will drop out and she can host again.
I'm not bothered, but I'm sure it'll go down as a shitshow alongside the Paris Hilton/Steve Forbes/Donald Trump episodes.
Why Elon Musk's 'SNL' hosting debut could be a lonely one, more news (msn.com) seriously? Not saying some of the cast are delicate drama queen crybabies or anything, but still......
Elon did okay. Most of his sketches were actually a bit amusing, instead of SNL’s usual tedium. The cast took a couple pretty good shots at him, too.
Every other EV brand showed up to Elon Musk’s SNL Lucid Motors, Ford, and others are using Musk’s appearance to sell their electric vehicles I saw the one for Lucid (it was literally the first spot in the first break after the monologue) but wasn't paying enough attention to notice the others.
I was watching the episode and I would say Elon did far better than I expected in his delivery. I know the momologue and jokes are written for him, and he probably practiced his timing and delivery with cast and coaches. His mom was a bit stiff, but he did pretty good. He was far better than Davidson over all. He even seemed to do well in different characters. He seemed gregarious and even made some jokes on himself. It was not a terrible SNL episode. The only problem I have seen so far was one I put into the red room for discussion.
It seems to be all the rage these days to be upset with billionaires due to their outrageous net worth. I get it. I want them to pay their fair share of taxes too.... but it's worth noting that just because you have a net worth of $166B, doesn't mean that you have $166B in your bank account. So many people seem to be walking around basing their opinions on that assumption. As far as billionaires go, Musk is better than most of them, IMHO. The man made Space X with the ultimate goal of making humanity a multi-planet species. A goal that will not be achieved in his lifetime, but all too important. He needs to inspire generations to come to make it a reality at some point. This is going to be very difficult considering the quarterly performance goals most businesses adhere to. So what does he do? He uses his tremendous wealth to develop battery technology to the point where Tesla is viable and singlehandedly reintroduces the public to electric cars, in order to help thwart man made climate change. With that ultimate goal in mind, does he make his battery technology proprietary so that only he can make electric cars? No! He makes it open source so that all car manufacturers can use his technology to make their own electric cars, thereby aiding the expansion of electric car infrastructure AND advancing the ultimate goal of mitigating climate change. Tesla shareholders hate him for that decision, by the way. So yeah... I don't understand the disdain for Musk, especially from the progressives. He's using the system to work for the betterment of mankind, which is more than I can say for anyone else off the top of my head.
He made some asshole remarks about covid and took some questionable actions at his factories.. I'm not sure what else other than he's intellectual and talks with an accent.
Yes, I was very disappointed in how he put pressure on Gov. Newsome to re-open his Giga-factory after CA had brought COVID under control initially. I'm pretty sure that this was the impetus to move Tesla to Texas. CA is just now going back into the "yellow zone" with respect to COVID infections. His very vocal criticism of Newsome's COVID policies more than likely cost lives.
He's batshit crazy and probably a little bigoted, but I agree with most of what you posted. Unlike a lot of other billionaires, he's actually moving the ball forward. Folks like Mark Zuckerberg and most oil barons are only moving us backwards.
