Any solid plans to clean 'em up? I remember John suggesting trimming the list down to 500 from the current 1,225 or so we have now, and letting folks know in case they were attached to a particular smiley.

Alrighty. I'm going to rip out the least used and least popular until I reach 500. At that point, you guys can decide how you want to proceed from there.

I just got to the violent smilies category. I still have about 1,147 to look through. Each smilie has to be deleted individually, with a confirmed deletion, and then I have to scroll back down to where I last left off, so this will take a while.

Done. The list has been cut to 516.

I installed two smiley add-on managers and worked them against each other until I could get the necessary emoticons deleted.

Can you see how many of those have been used in the last two years? A year ago we had a smilie pruning thread that turned into a 'pick your favorite smilies thread' so anything people hold dear, even if not used will have been used with the last years.

Anything not used in the last two years should be cut IMO.

While I can't get too specific with date and time, I can go by least to most popular, and say, cut them in half, if that's what you're going for. This is where I would recommend telling people to keep their favorite smiley, because it may not be there once I'm done.

I'd say give people the weekend to save any smilies they might want and then unleash hell.

I have sorted the emoticons into individual categories for now, so that when I remove whatever I need to remove, the heavy lifting is already done.

By the way, when you want to use a smiley now, all you have to do is click the emoticon button in the toolbar (that's the smiley face) and you'll see the drop down menu.
