Just saw it. It was a lot of fun. Don't think I enjoyed it as much as No Way Home. It definitely had some moments that put a lump in my throat, but I have two big gripes:
Just got out. Dragged a little more than the previous one, but overall very good. I'm surprised Fox News hasn't been raging over the real villain basically being ICE.
This isn't really a spoiler. Hulk is in every single trailer for the movie. Anyway... Hulk/Banner were coexisting fine in Endgame. But then for some unknown reason, Banner/Hulk decided to like purge or suppress all the gamma radiation in his body or some shit. I don't know. This all happened in She-Hulk from what I remember. And by "happen" I mean Bruce just said that's what he did in some throw away dialog. So he wears some bracelet thing now that suppresses Hulk. Which I guess is why Hulk is pissed again since Banner has basically purged him out of existence. Honestly, nothing about Hulk's story in the MCU makes sense. He's just whatever the movie needs right there in that moment.
Well, I imagine it's hard to legit get laid while he's The Hulk. It happened in The Incredible Hulk, and it was referenced in Age Of Ultron too. That alone would be reason enough for me to not walk around in Hulk form all the time, if Hulk had cockblocked me from Liv Tyler AND Scarlet Johannson. The Old Man Logan comic tangentially touched on this. And no, I will not elaborate any further (shudder).
Of course I saw it. I love the Punisher, I love Spidey, and I loved this film. I heard people saying they cried during it, and I was like, "pffft, yeah right." But they were telling the truth. Don't ask me how I know. It had all the feels. I honestly felt like I was watching a real Spidey comic come to life for the first time ever. As for a the Raimi films were, they still felt like adaptations to me. This felt like the comics. It looked like the comics. It was, as far s I'm concerned, the best Spidey film from a comic lover's perspective.
Except that may not be true. In She-Hulk, Hulk's son does show up and he's the green teenager looking Hulk from the comics. So Hulk was out there getting with alien chicks in the MCU. Now whether or not that bit of canon sticks is up in the air since She-Hulk was doing some stupid 4th wall none-of-this-probably-happened bullshit when he was introduced. But it does seem like the MCU floats the idea that Hulk gets laid more than Bruce.
I didn't tear up until the very end. You know the scene I'm talking about. And the opening montage, shot from Spider-Man's perspective, was probably the best depiction I've ever seen of what it's like to be a superhero and move through a city.
Hulk was a beloved Space Gladiator for a while, it makes sense he'd have groupies, if not prostitutes gifted to him by the Grandmaster as a reward for his victories.
A lot of the Spidey action seemed to be inspired by the PlayStation games, especially the stuff where he's besties with the cops and getting app notifications about crimes in progress.
Caught this last week, and what a great Spidey movie. My only three bugbears were the crap postcredits - I waited for that?; mind controlling the Hulk only gives you a headache? Should give you a sense of trying to stop falling off the edge of a skyscraper of rage, and the skyscraper doing a bucking bronco; The hint that Ned has started to remember Peter, I could get the muscle memory for the handshake and Ned asking Peter how he knew that, and leaving them to talk as we fade away to the credits, but what looks like remembering? They are piddling bugbears though, I'm really hoping that when Holland finally leaves the role they let him have some input with the future films, it's clear his influence, and observing how his other movies have been written and made, have had a really positive impact and added a little something a lot of Marvel movies of late have been missing. It looks like Jean gave JJ her memories back too, and it was great to see the Punisher done well on the big screen - they trod the line really well, you got the damaged Frank without going as deep as One Last Kill, and also didn't have him as some one dimensional killing machine. They left Banner in a bad place, we saw in Shulk that Banner could switch between human/prof Hulk forms, but the return of the pure Hulk form was handled well, shame we probably won't get anything out of it like a cathartic 60 minute special of Hulk, Skaar, and Abomination beating the ever loving shit of bad guys. Think Nobody, but with a lot more green.
I’m with @Uncle Albert. Too much black woman (screen time 13 minutes) and not enough unhinged murderer man (screen time 30 minutes).
I'll grant lack of experience and development, but when Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen found her as a young child, she was already rearranging her world around herself, not just controlling minds.
Well, if UA is whining about it, it must be the greatest artistic effort ever put out by human beings. I'll have to wear a pressure suit to keep my skin from ripping off in the blast-wave of awesome.
Yes, and? X3 was terrible, and no other iteration of Jean was that powerful from the jump. Hell, go back and read the comics from Uncanny X-Men #1. This Jean is far more in line with that one, powers-wise.
And I say they nerfed her so she didn't obliterate Spidey and half of Manhattan Island with a sneeze or a bad dream. The wonderful thing about canon being all over the fucking place is that it is impossible to have the final word. You can only have a preference for whichever version you like. I am sentimental about Famke Janssen because Star Trek, so I do not dismiss the Singer movies.
Well, yes, that would be a very dull movie. X3 wasn't a Singer movie, first of all. Secondly, Id say that making Jean have Godlike powers as a child was a terrible plot choice. If you liked it, that's great, but it doesnt make much sense to hold this iteration of Jean to a standard that only exists in one place, based on one of the least popular X-Men films
This is a different Jean Grey, she's from an entirely different reality, and for all we know her powers don't derive from an X gene. Just as each Spidey had differences in NWH, so she is different from the XVerse(s) versions. I'm sure we'll get a few "my mutation is bigger than yours" in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
