23 pages of posts versus 2 pages. The threads should have been merged a long time ago. However, if we're starting a new thread for every season of a television show, then so be it.
Maybe they'll cut out the extra steps and just have them defeat the big antagonist directly WITH the power of weepy speechifying.
I hear Rick and Michonne show up near the end of the final episode to save the day. It's a real tear-jerker!
Lower Decks is the only one with a semi consistent start date around August of each season. Picard comes back in January and SNW in May.
So, mods, could you please fold this into the omnibus Discovery thread? Omnibus threads are popular, and beloved, and therefore must devour all stragglers. It's nature's way.
Hollywood Reporter saying that Discovery season five will be the last. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/star-trek-discovery-season-5-end-1235339464/ Thank jeebus.
Discovery is like the anti-Trek. Most Trek series got better as they went along. TNG and DS9 spring to mind. Discovery had a very strong (but sometimes uneven) first two season and then just started getting worse and worse.
Federal Farmer is overjoyed. Saw a thread on r/startrek about speculation on P+ cutting costs and I figured given the age of the series, it was the most likely to be cut. Disco wasn't my show but I wouldn't have the shows I do enjoy without it so I won't tap dance on its grave like I'm sure some others will be. There are a few scenes that will need reshoots, plus the industry has been running really thin because of a lack of VFX people versus the number of projects out there. It's why a lot of projects post COVID have been looking like ass.
Disco's arc was planned at 5 years all along. And they've said all last year 5 would be the end. Dunno why they're acting like it's new news.
Considering how much of the press for the "final" season of Picard involved a lot of people teasing even more seasons of it if the demand is there, I wouldn't have put it past them to try milking Discovery for as long as possible too.
it's fine. Three of Picard is fine, Five of Disco is fine. BUT Five of Strange New Worlds will NOT be fine.
yup... first two seasons they tried to think outside of the box and clunky as it could be at times, at least they still had the box to build around. 3 and 4, the box is no longer involved and they may as well have called it ST: Andromeda for all the framing.
Discovery introduced some interesting ideas, but I haven't always been entertained by the show, to be kind. I hope it catches some sort of stride in S5.
My biggest beef with Disco was the blatant unnecessary attempts to show how clever they were, how bang-zoom-wow they were beyond previous Trek The fucking saucer section - or the whole goddamn ship - doesn't need to spin when they jump; there doesn't have to be - and shouldn't be - vast and unexplainable unused space through which a trubolift travels and unless it's key to the plot, we don't need to see the outside of the lift at all; A ship that shapeshifts is just goofy and defies the laws of physics; The Klingons didn't need to get EVEN MORE ugly; Nacelles that aren't attached to the ship are stupid; I'm sure I could add a dozen items to the list if I thought about it. I'm actually pretty pleased with the cast, the stories, and so forth - the core of the show. It wasn't great but it was fine. But I can certainly understand how people could just be exhausted from all the irrational clutter.
Honestly, I think even the simple act of having Michael NOT be related to Spock could've mitigated a lot of the wank aimed at it out of the gate. That was a grip many people had well before they started leaning into feelings and emotions for everyone and turned a lotta people off just on that decision along. The idea of a human being raised outside of Earth culture was a great one, but it could've been any other Vulcan ambassador.
