Is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Subsequently, today I see that it is on the torrent sites too. Just sayin'.
I've already got my pre-order in at walmart.com! (I don't buy my DVDs or Blurays in Canada because I can't fucking stand the bilingual packaging.) The Wal-Mart edition comes with an exclusive diecast model of the U.S.S. Vengeance. Amazon has an exclusive version with a phaser pistol replica but it's twice the price.
Should be out on the 12th in Europe. Together with the AC/DC Live in Donnington Blu-ray (which is said to have stellar sound quality with an uncompressed PCM mix), this should make the perfect initiation for my new sound system
It's been around for download for at least a week now. I'm still waiting for the reviews of Dayton and Captain X.
All the HD torrents I see say they were added 26/8/13. Unless you're talking about the shitty webcams, but those don't count. I' too, await their reviews.
At this time in 1982 STII:TWOK was still going strong in theaters everywhere. And would continue to do so for weeks, even months after that. How times have changed!
I am disgusted that a commentary exists and won't be included on the Blu-Ray edition. Ferchrissakes, the Blu-Ray is FOR FILM LOVERS.
These shenanigans are not new. Seems like practically every different place you buy a movie claims some kind of exclusive content, and then there's the version released in different countries, in different boxed sets.. The truth is I don't give a shit about anything but the movie. I'm more upset that I can't get a Bluray of TWOK director's cut than I am that I don't get to listen to JJ Abrams verbally crawling up his own ass.
In STiD's case you'd be dealing with the irritating Damon Lindelof doing that too! Lindelost thinks he's a genius
The UK edition lists at least six special features. Could it be that we get a better version? Shame I think it's shit.
Meh. The best melding of "cheap" and "easy" will probably be on Amazon. I'm not going out into the world to interact with people so I can get sixteen hours of special features I'll never watch.
I watch everything. Every scrap. Not watching every little nugget of a DVD is like not pushing every button in a new car, or only reading half a book. Gotta run a thing through its paces, or you're not getting your money's worth. You're ripping yourself off.
A director's commentary is almost always the most important special feature to me. I enjoy learning about the decisions that went into the making of the film. Hell, I even listened to the director's commentary on friggin' MacGruber. And some commentaries can be almost as entertaining as the movie (Bridesmaids and Forgetting Sarah Marshall come immediately to mind.)
Movies have a pretty fast turnaround these days. Y'all remember the days when a movie would play in theaters for months and wouldn't make it to video until about a year later?
Why buy the blu-ray when the movie is going to be shown endlessly on TV on the FX channel? I've gotten over my dvd-buying phase of life. The movies I enjoy watching over & over I already own. Today's flicks are worth one viewing, if even that.
No, sorry. I'm not subjecting myself to something I don't enjoy as a chore to get my money's worth. My favorite disks are the ones with no special features, no previews, no fucking bonus anything. A basic menu (that loads immediately ) to make your audio settings and then PLAY MOVIE.
Jesus, what boring fucking movies are you watching, where the bonuses are a chore? The Toxic Avenger 4 bonuses are so funny, they're like having 2 extra movies for free. Now the commentaries on "Chocolat", or "Seasbiscuit", would probably put you in a coma, but WTF are you buying those for??
The updated commentary on the Director's Cut for John Milius's "Conan The Barbarian" is a hoot, with Milius and Arnie reminiscing and having a great time. My favorite commentary is on "The Usual Suspects". It's hysterical listening to Bryan Singer and Christopher McQuarrie behaving like total geeks and bagging on each other. My favorite bit is when McQuarrie commented on his cameo as the interrogator talking to Keating. He admits you were never supposed to see his face, but he wound up sticking his face into frame at one point just so that people could see his mug acting in a scene Gabriel Byrne. It's funny as hell.
I watched it Friday night, didnt have time to get to cinema when it was released and kept myself in the dark about plots, reviews etc. My god what a pile of shite. Im going to have to track down the threads here and go through them. I would always want to give any ST movie at least a 2nd watch before i label it guff, but i don't know if i can bring myself to sitting through it again. Maybe/ hopefully i just wasnt in the right frame of mind for it Friday.
Not entirely true. I'm seeing more and more people lay into it. While there is still a majority who jizz over it like yourself there seems to be a not insignificant chunk of people who think it's dissapointing. Case in point, the recent critical editorial at Trekmovie.com which claimed that "Star Trek is Broken" (for the same reasons actually that I objected to the film), which caused writer Robert Orci to have a full on meltdown. Hell, even on the football forum I post on there is a movie thread and most people who were remotely familiar with Trek slated it. Despite you easy to please gushers pretending otherwise, STiD didn't just carry with it the built in haters like Dayton & Co, but it also managed to put off quite a few folks who actually quite enjoyed JJTrek '09. It has definitely split opinion way more than the first one. That may not be convenient for you "everyone who hates it is a nerd who can't move on" trolls, but it's what's happen. Take a look at IMDB. It has a great deal of positive ratings for the movie, but when you go to the user reviews page this is not reflected, instead many very critical reviews are present. What that tells me is that there is a split between those who just want lighthearted action and watch movies casually, and those who go to the cinema for other reasons as well, such as the quality of the story, etc (and not just for Trek).
Don't worry, Im quite comfortable having my own opinions. The only small worry is that I might actually agree with Dayton on something! Started wading through the STID thread, Im up to page 35 now and the movie still hasn't been released. Fuck is wrong with you people! If anyone knows offhand which page to skip to when I can start reading your reviews, it would be good.
