Say what you will about the season but Celia absolutely rocks the TOS look. If the story is as good I'll be smiling.

I have high hopes for the season finale.
there’s only 7 more episodes of this series left.

I find it funny we haven't seen photos or footage of Jane-McCoy or Murakami-Sulu. :chris:
Maybe they're saving it for after the season 4 finale?

They're saving it for next year, when there will be a surprise announcement that Paul Wesley is leading a TOS reboot that will be all "gimmick" episodes.

That noise you heard was @Nova turning into a puddle of goo.

Star Trek Online has a remastered mission where you meet SNW Spock, TOS Spock, and movie-era Captain Spock. Oddly enough, titled "City on the Edge Of Never".

But if Shatner's ego could handle it, imagine getting him, Wesley and Pine in one story... of course, he's never done VO work for the game, unlike Nimoy (which is how he can appear as TOS Spock using reworked dialogue - an impersonator plays movie-Spock).

I don't know what Ethan Peck was thinking, but that new STO "episode" was terrible, and chopping up the old Nimoy recordings and adding some not-Nimoy filler resulted in some painful dialogue.

Did like the ship models, though. Maybe the new TFO won't suck.

    *edit*
And the last time Shatner did voice work in an ST game, he sounded bored and phoned it in.

It sounds like that, unless the plot is basically Shatner and everyone else is basically a minion, he's not interested.

At his age, I give him a pass on ego trips like that.

They should have just flung him a script where Pine and Wesley take turns to wheel him around the Enterprise in a rickshaw, him casting out orders like Caligula for 20 minutes, then every Trek actor still alive records a thank you that gets played on the main screen whilst he sits back and smiles, until the last one, Takei, appears, and it's just him going "Nope. Nope. Noooooo. Not doing this." Roll credits.

    S04E10, "Tomorrow's Enterprise"

Um, it was okay. I went into it with lots of curiosity because I managed to stay spoiler free, having only seen Uhura wearing the future Uhura wig, and I think it helped temper my expectations. So I'll do it how I used to do it and have pros and cons. It's always easier to get to the point that way.

    THINGS I LIKED

    * Visual effects are, once again, terrific.
    * The Pike/Uhura dynamic. He's clearly a father figure to her, I like their chemistry in that regard.
    * Scotty/Uhura. While I'm getting very tired of relationships in SNW, this one's a payoff from Star Trek V, so I'll allow it.
    * Chapel mentioning she dated a woman. It's nice to get a callback that not everyone on this ship is straight.

    THINGS I'M STILL WORKING ON
    * Space baby
    * Spock now says "tract-ORS" along with "sens-ORS" for some reason. I know "sens-ORS" is from the original series with the way Leonard pronounced it, but he said tractor beam without emphasis.

    THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE
    * I really don't like the wigs. They're noticeable. Like old age makeup in an 80s show noticeable. It's especially egregious on Ortegas.
    * The bluff tell. Uhura is probably terrific at poker, but they set it up and executed it in the same story and used it as a fulcrum point, which I thought was kind of weak.
    * The time shift being one year forward. There's a lot of growth in just one year. It feels more like a 4 or 5 year skip to me.

    RUMINATIONS

A bit of an anti-climactic ending to the season. Maybe as a mid-season episode it would have been better, but we got what we got, and I think things went pretty well all things considered. I haven't been a fan of this season, and so I didn't know what I was going to be getting and it worked out fine. The nostalgia was strong with this episode, as it feels like it's drawing from some past Star Trek episodes and cobbled together to make this one, which is fine, nothing wrong with pulling from previous Trek, but it does feel somewhat cobbled together for me. I think it was only this episode where I realize how simplified things have become in how shows convey information to their audiences. It's a lot of tell, don't show, and the tell is pretty basic. Celia Rose Gooding did a fine job carrying the episode, but overall it felt a bit weak for me, and the emotion felt kind of tacked on. Just my two bits, of course. Anyway, this one gets a 5.5/10. Pretty average, but not at all bad.

1 year timeskip seems off as this should be 2262/63 and Kirk's 5-year mission SHOULD start 2265 (and in TOS Chapel says in 2266 that Korby has been missing for 5 years, so 2262/63 would track better), plus Pike is promoted to Fleet Captain not Admiral per TOS, though this could be the same thing as TOS Commodore being updated to the modern Rear Admiral, Lower Half? Though Kirk saying he met Pike on his promotion to FC is already out of the window here (and no, dialogue in The Menagerie refers to Pike's CURRENT rank as Fleet Captain, so it's not just that he got a later promotion).

Hmm, searching around this, the writers seem to have been quite canny - Kirk doesn't actually say he ONLY met Pike on his promotion to FC - and that happened in Lost in Translation. So I will allow this, but not the 2263 start to Kirk's command unless they establish that Kirk was given a running-in period before assuming a 5-year mission.. or that the extra years were completing Pike's 5-year stint.

On the episode - I liked it. Fun all around. The problem to solve and how it was solved was ridiculous, but in the style of Star Trek ridiculousness that's basically a tradition of the franchise. Takes nothing away from the episode if the story is well told - and this was. If I HAD to quibble, I'd rather the gap have been more than one year but I understand where they were going with that. Oh, and also, "Captain Ortegas"? In ONE YEAR? Nah, should have been commander.

Yes, they absolutely gave me joy by directly referencing Gary, but it would have been even better if he was on the bridge and gotten a line or two. Peck did well in channeling the "colder" Spock from early TOS (not completely but well enough). Also caught that glimpse of M'Res and the passing reference to "Bones" (although it sounded wrong for anyone else besides Kirk to refer to him that way)
ETA: I thought Wesley was again pretty solid as Captain Kirk. I'll never process how he looks, but he's got the part down as far as acting goes.

On the season I'd rank them:

    1. Orders of Magnitude - Magnificent
    2. Off-Hour - Excellent
    3. Tomorrow's Enterprise - very good
    4. Valles Marineris - very good
    5. Chronitons - Fine, more pleasure than frustration
    6. Chiaroscura - in a vacuum, fine. Don't mind the gimmick, it just suffered by placement in the order
    7. Griffin Incident - Meh. Hard for me to be objective because horror ain't my thing, but I don't recall a lot to complain about
    8. Human Best Friend - mediocre. Nothing that tempts me to rewatch and it suffers from the "Why is Kirk here?" problem.
    9. La'an a Time - just. Unnecessary. You have only 10 episodes, don't waste any on filler.
    10. Transporter Accident - arguably the second worse episode of the series. Good episode of the muppet show - but this ain't the Muppet Show.

Agreed - Scotty refers to him that way in one of the temporal agent missions of STO, and it just feels wrong.

I mean, if any other TOS character WERE to use the nickname, I could see it being Scotty, but I still think that's something only Kirk was told/got to use.

I've seen an explanation that "Fleet Captain" isn't a regular order rank but a position held on a special appointment to command multiple ships. Their regular rank could be anything from Captain on up. One might extrapolate that if the accident happened while he was Fleet Captain and working with cadets that me might have been attached to the Academy overseeing multiple cadet training ships.

One standalone point: they got through a whole season without doing "This week we're going to fuck with Spock" even once.

Spock having the puppet dream wasn't fucking with him? Or him thinking he was hallucinating Kirk because he was high on atmosphere? Or his experiences in the Griffin Incident?

I am not a canon-fanatic, but the fairly clear subtext of the line is that Kirk has a passing acquaintance with him after Pike received a promotion.

Given that Kirk has met Pike something like a half-dozen times so far, answering "When he became fleet captain" instead of something more like, a few times" doesn't mesh well IMO.

After watching this episode I felt kind of cheated. It wasn't a bad episode, better than most this season. The Scotty\Uhura wasn't out of nowhere, we saw some of it in ST-V and also in the Changeling, when Nomad was reading Uhura's mind, Scotty came to her defense and 'died' doing so.

Pike had a good moment with Uhura when he told her it was his honor, Anson Mount did a great job playing that moment.

And wow, Ortegas has been cheated by having the haircut she's had, she looks great with actual hair. She looks adorable with that hair.

While it was better than most of this season, the rushed end was a bit of a let down, it was a reset button instead of Uhura actually doing something instead of just watching.

I liked this one just fine. @Nova's list is about the same as my own, but I'd rank "Valles Marineris" higher than "Tomorrow's Enterprise".

I'm a big enough Trek nerd to remember that in Roddenberry's original pitch for the series, "Bones" Boyce was chief medical officer on Robert April's Enterprise, which makes this week's dialog kind of funny.

Prediction: La'an will die in Kirk's arms, and he'll get "Somewhere In Time" level depressed about it, so Spock gives him the "forget" whammy.

In none of these was the direct object of the story "let's fuck with Spock specifically"

I'm accustomed to "Fuck with Spock" MOMENTS.

But not the whole ass episode like "Four and a Half Vulcans"

Hell, "Four and a Half Vulcans" was worse than "What Is Starfleet?" as far as I'm concerned, and I think that episode was pure gobshite.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine what they were thinking with that episode. It was a giant leap backwards. It made TOS season 3 episodes look subtle.
