What, like he was in The Cage? Yes, damn them for staying on canon.

Its not cannon that Spock is emotional in The Cage or the first season of TOS, that’s a retcon invented by fans. Nimoy hadn’t figured out the character in The Cage. He quickly developed character into what we know today. Now if you wanted to dive into his childhood, that would make a little more sense.

No. The script does not describe him as emotionless for The Cage. GR did not describe him as emotionless back then. They had two characters that didn't act human, Number One was the emotionless one, and when the studio told them to reduce it to one, that got moved to Spock. Now, you can of course consider The Cage non-canon and retcon Spock to have been more firmly Vulcan throughout his career as an officer, meaning that what we see on screen in The Cage is just a misrepresentation of "what really happened" -- and of course, we didn't see The Cage on-screen at all for decades beyond The Managerie. But there is absolutely no reason why you would have to go with that retcon. Starfleet doesn't require him to show no emotion; Starfleet does not require him to be as Vulcan as he can. We have seen him try to get more Vulcan in TMP, and then change his mind; we have seen him recapitulate that journey in TVH; we have seen him reflect upon it in TNG. He keeps struggling with his two halves; it's not a one-way street; it's fine if he's closer to an emotional human a decade or so before TOS.

    Your surrender is accepted. :spock:

"Emotionless Spock" is a pop culture creation along the lines of "Serial womanizer Kirk" or "Beam me up, Scottie."

I didn’t say he can’t have emotions. All Vulcans have emotions, they suppress them. But you’re right, I’m not allowed to have an opinion that doesn’t praise these new shows so I give up.

One need only re-watch the barfight scene in "trouble with tribbles", to see how that goes.

I'm not sure what heavy projectiles have to do with anything, but can you cite your canon sources for how Spock behaved in his first years off Vulcan working with a largely human crew for the first time?

Yeah, there was obviously off-screen retconning going on, but the way I see it, Spock was half human and therefore might have gone back and forth a bit with his commitment to Vulcan ideology. In fact, it wasn't until TMP that he decided to undergo the process of purging all emotion, and even then he quit before finishing.

That said, most of the examples in the video above occurred when he was under the influence of an external agent. It wasn't his "normal" behaviour.

So, d'ya think SNW will have its own theme, or a retooling of the TOS theme?
I mean "The Cage", can be seen as a retroactive SNW pilot, and it establishes the TOS theme.

My guess is that it has the TOS notes worked into a broader theme, as a transitional piece. I find the new shows opening sequences to be imaginative and beautiful, but not quite Trek. But then, it's supposed to evolve - I'm an old fart now. :D

Each individual exterior shot is fine (and some are genuinely lovely), but it's a jumbled mess, and the interior shots don't belong, IMO. The theme is all wrong too. Needs a sort of prologue, then a main theme. Every series has had one, even Enterprise, and it's part of Star Trek's auditory language.

    And of course, wrong font.

ETA: holy crap I did not realize just how similar the prologue in Lower Decks is to TAS's. I knew it sounded familiar.

Since showrunners apparently lurk this board, I wanna put my request in for a flashback to Captain April handing Pike the reins of the Enterprise.

Alex Kurtzman if you are lurking this board you need to learn a few things. A) space is huge B) there is a difference between Starfleet and the Federation. Even after eleven years, you still don’t seem to understand those two tings. To be continued...

but what's the difference between those two and UESPA or Space Central? Kirk had to answer to both of them as well...

    Truer words, rarely spoken.

a couple of inconsistencies and plotholes that have existed since TOS.
