Unless Shmi had another virgin birth after Anakin left, I'm not seeing how she'd be related to Luke. But we'll see next year.
I'm not sure how, but Rey is Luke's daughter. Star Wars is a generational story of the Skywalker family; she has to be of the next generation. My best theory (I think I stated it earlier in this thread, sue me) is that she's a daughter Luke didn't know he had and that she was left on Jakku about the same time as Kylo Ren wiped out the nuJedi. She was being kept hidden from somebody. Kylo Ren certainly doesn't seem to know about her identity, nor does Snoke, though the latter may know more than he says. No, I think Rey was being kept hidden from Luke. I think Luke might've had a little walk on the dark side after his pupils were murdered, and that explains not only Rey being left on Jakku (possibly under the watchful eye of Lor San Tekka, who clearly knows Leia) but also Luke's self-banishment.
Kylo Ren is a Skywalker. The story has already continued. Rey needs not to be. I think they have a real problem. If Rey is a Skywalker then it's an obvious groan. If she isn't then I think the audience will feel a bit cheated. Fucked either way.
Huh. Suddenly I'm wondering if she was kept hidden from Luke, either by the Dark Side or because Luke turned dark sometime in between. I'd like either of those two storylines.
While Kylo Ren is a Skywalker, he isn't the focus of the new trilogy. Plus, he's already done something that makes him pretty much irredeemable. I think the mystery behind Rey's parentage invites the conclusion that Luke is the father. And, yes, maybe that's a setup. Maybe Rey is completely unrelated. I don't think it's necessarily "fucked" either way, certainly not if either (1) the revelation that Luke is the father is well-played or (2) Ray's parentage is dramatically satisfying in some other way.
There's a much better explanation. Given that Rey is obviously a Mary Sue, the question to ask is who created her? That answer is easy. Kathleen Kennedy - Head of Lucasfilm and brand manager for the Star Wars franchise Given that the Mary Sue's creator is Disney royalty, Rey is a fucking Disney princess.
One of my coworkers brought this to my attention today: Rey Is a Palpatine. I don't know if I agree with the theory.
John Williams is back. I love the guy, but the score for TFA was lacking. As I said before, the music of the prequels was great. Let's hope he brings something new to the table while still maintaining Classic SW music. http://makingstarwars.net/2016/08/j...ing-on-star-wars-episode-viii-in-a-few-weeks/
Duel of the Fates would've been far more fitting in the Kylo/Rey fight. Or hell, somewhere in Episode 9 when they square off for the last time.
Rey is Han and Leia's daughter. They kept it secret after the disaster that was Kylo Ren. Just rewatched and it's obvious. Mark it 8 dude.
Luke's island planet is Ahch-to. http://www.darkhorizons.com/rian-johnson-talks-star-wars-episode-viii-plot/
Well, Carrie Fisher's dead but I guess they already finished shooting episode 8. I didn't like episode 7 all that much but I will probably see 8 just because. It's a better director IIRC.
But does this film answer the most important question from the last film? That's what we want to know.
A friend pointed out on Facebook that, going forward, we'll no longer be able to use "Jedi" as shorthand to reference a Star Wars movie because it'll no longer be specific enough.
